Ocean's Seven - Owe Me Sex
Producer: B. Michael Cox
Album: 3008 Mixtape
Label: So So Def
Inspired by classic Rat Pack heist film Oceans Eleven and its 2001 remake, So So Def boss Jermaine Dupri has assembled a brand new supergroup. In addition to JD himself, Ocean’s Seven is composed of musical masterminds Johnta Austin, Trey Songz, Bryan-Michael Cox, Nelly, Tyrone, and Q Da Kid. The septet’s first Booth feature is centered around a sample of Kanye‘s verse from Jeezy‘s Put On. Knowing that there are still a quite few females that “Owe Me Sex,” the group decide that it’s time to collect on those debts. Johnta, Trey, and Nelly handle the verses, while B. Cox departs from his status quo on the production tip (when’s the last time you’ve heard him sample a hip-hop song?). When a supergroup is assembled, a massive groupie reaction is sure to follow (see Expensive Taste, TGT, CRS, and Slaughterhouse); expect that buzz to rise to a fever pitch when Ocean’s Seven drop their debut mixtape, 3008, which has yet to receive a solid release date.

I think that Kanye sample is a great idea for a concept for a track, but I don't feel like it was accomplished as well as it could have been. That sample may have worked better over different production, it kinda seemed like too much goin on at once to me. I think the verse two verses worked well wit the track, but I wasn't feelin Nelly and J.D.'s verse at all. I'll give it a 1.5, it wasn't workin for me.

The Yeezy sample was pretty decent, kind of distorted a little too much.
Trey and Nelly were the highlights here (no big surprise) but I was expecting way much more from these artists. Production overall was way below average as well. |

If you ignore the less than enjoyable production work, which could have been OFF THE CHAINS (if done for placement on an album and not a mixtape), there is a lot to like here.
As CB pointed out, Trey and Nelly both sound great. I'll give this a 2.5 (which will be rounded down in stars) and keep my expectations grounded. |

I thought this was going to dope when I read the summary thing. This is pretty garbage. The hook and the whole production of the song is dope and they flopped on the Kanye sample idea. Not much to like here

Glad this is just on a mixtape because this was very disappointing for a supergroup like this. Kanye sample could have been better and none of the artists really stood out to me, except for Trey. Nelly was OK but nothing memorable. The track was OK.

Im shocked Durpi didnt convince Bow Wow to be involved in this 'super group' (I dont believe he has completely retired from hip hop).
No where near good enough to warrant a place on a LP, but for a mixtape track its not totally garbage. |

its not good when im listenin to it but im not hearing any words, just noise...they play that sample waayyy too much, trey's verse would actually be pretty good if the production was different, im glad to see nell still doin his thing, he's always been very consistant flow-wise, you know what to expect with him on a track
i was hopin for a banger with this "super group" but it needs some serious tweakin |

The production wouldn't be bad, but the melody is totally insubstantial. Wouldn't listen to this again, but I've heard worse

Wooooooooooow. Kanye might wanna get a lawyer because they murdered his sample here. The fact they bit that line and tried to make an entire tack from it just shows how far So So Def has fallen since "Where the Party At?."

The production was over-crowded but it may have been great if not for that. As far as the lyrics go this was, well, nothing new. I paused the song half way 'cause I couldn't take them all being so repetetive 'bout how playa they are.

Hey everyone! Thanks for all your complements on the new look of the site. As for this record, what can I say? There are always some bad seeds in a batch. Won't happen again... promised.

i wish they bcox coulda made the production hotter, especially on the verses. trey songz was my favorite on the track. this song had so much potential. i hope this group doesnt just clown around and actually makes some dope music cuz they got 7 talented guys and this isnt a nice representation of their potential.
