Now On - Unwind
Artist: Now On
Producer: Haircut [of The Lab Techs]
Album: Tomorrow Already
Label: A-Side Worldwide
On their website, Now On describes their sound as “post-futuristic soul.” Not to be picky or anything, but I’m pretty sure that they made that term up. From what little information I’ve gathered about post-futurism throughout my education, their music is absolutely nothing like it. But hey, “post-futuristic soul” sounds cool, and that’s what really matters. Their new single, Unwind, is a trouble-free hip-hop ode to the art of seduction. Emcees IX Lives and Jackson Perry suavely meander through three verses, sharing their various methods of setting the mood. The other member of the Michigan trio, producer Haircut of The Lab Techs, contributes a steady, equally suave beat. Unwind will appear on Now On’s upcoming album, Tomorrow Already, out September 30.

Agreed, this beat is real nice. As for the vocals, thats another story. I'm not gonna say that I dont like the song, but that chorus can definetely be tweaked a little better. The verses are on point and really what you would expect for a new group. Its in rotation, but mostly because of that hot production.

This is eclectic. This beat is off the chains, and I agree is very Neptune like. I'll throw this in rotation for now and look for more from these guys in the future.

That one guy on the hook sounded like Pharell.

The beat is average, their voices are too effeminate for my tastes and the chorus is mediocre...not feelin this, either!

The beat caught me for the first few seconds but just turned into average real quick...then the singing came in and it totally killed it for me

Pharrell hasn't produced beats this smooth in some time. BUT, I see the comparison. Overall, I love the sound of this record. It's very enjoyable. I look forward to more material from this trio.

So laid back... just unwind. I can see myself listening to this again, especially when I'm stressed. Seems a little bit of The Pharcyde and Neptune mixed together. Not bad, lets see what else they got.
