You never know what to expect from consummate artist Novel, except the unexpected. The first we heard from his upcoming Legato Blues Summer Mixtape was the gospel-infused State of Loneliness, followed by the bedroom burner Red Light, and now? Now we’re being hit off with the quasi-philosophical What If, an eclectically produced track (by Novel himself, of course) that seemingly draws from influences ranging from classic soul to reggae. While Novel steps into the booth to sing and, yes, rap a bit about how life might have been oh-so-different if the situations surrounding he and a certain female were just a little different, Tweet (who’s continuing her comeback with skill after Love Again) also jumps on board for some supremely smooth harmonies. What If Novel had never started making music? Thankfully, we’ll never have to find out the answer to that question. So, will Legato Blues Summer contain a punk rock track? An opera? From what we’re heard so far, I wouldn’t rule anything out. We’ll find out for sure when the project finally drops …“soon.”

This is a very solid track from Novel. It's not my favorite knowing Novel's ability, but it can definitely fit into the rotation.

Just flew back into Chicago this evening, so I'm going to have to be brief...
Novel is so talented he managed to pull Tweet out of FILL IN THE BLANK and she sounds right at home over his production work. This new mixtape is shaping up to be a great end of summer listen, which will take us all through the early portion of fall.

I've always wanted to really like a Novel song. But, the ones I've heard I didn't like that much. I like this one though.

solid song. the hook was good and the verses were on point. but when i saw the title i was expecting the jadakiss kind of what if, not some love song

This is a nice track. Tweet adds a nice touch to the song, and Novel does a great job on the production.

novel is solid as usual but not superb (his vocals and production that is), the thing that makes this a banger is tweet, she adds the element of real soul to this track

Im realy not diggin the drection Novel is taking recently in his music. I feel as if he's watering himself down to appeal to more to more people.

Tweet adds the good melodic sound to the chorus.

the rimshots and cymbals stand out 4 me....good work on production nice drums..sounds complete...hook is strait...melody is nice...it's there...jus not all the way

Novel's spoiled us. He gives us tracks like this, which are frankly better than 90% of the music out there, and because he's dropped other tracks that are better than 99% of the music out there, it doesn't sound that incredible.
