Novel - Sky Might Fall (Soul Version)

In installment number four of his “Internet Novelties” series (featured earlier this week), reader-acclaimed singer/songwriter/emcee/producer Novel shouted out the Booth and proceeded to give viewers an inside look at his recording process. If you were wondering how the cut he was working on turned out, well, wonder no longer, because here it is! On this soulful reimagining of Kid CuDi‘s Sky Might Fall (a record CuDi’s performed live, but has not released to the ‘net), Novel sticks closer to the source material than he did on musical ‘sequel’ Song Cry II, but not by much—here, he rebuilds Kanye West‘s hazily ambient production from the ground up, giving his revamp a more organic feel with the addition of some driving piano chords. Of course, the ATL native’s soulful vocals are a far cry from CuDi’s stoneriffic drone, and the rewritten verses are where he truly makes the record his own. Novel’s debut album, The Audiobiography, is currently scheduled to drop this June, though the artist has implied that label issues may delay its release—keep it locked to the Booth for all the latest.

 KiD CuDi KILLED this. but you know what, Novel kinda went hard too, but in a different way. im not mad at this actually. (3.5 stars)

Novel is such a great vocalist and the fact that he produces as well makes me appreciate his talents so much. I always love his songs. Solid 4.

Novel does everything..sing, rap, and produce. This song shows off his versatility even more. I like the way he remixed the production a little bit but not too much. KiD CuDi's version is dope but if your lookin for the more soulful version this is it. I'm loving both versions. Banger!

love this joint right here..the whole compilation of this product was on point..givin it a 5 star ratin,although-i wouldn't call it a classic..a classic to me is just about everything eric b. & rakim put together,like "paid in full" and most definitely "eric b is president"..those are classics,better yet-untouchables..so,just sayin',novel is my dude & shyt,but he's got a long way to go to produce some classics in my opinion..just sayin'

Flawless... Therefore classic. Beautiful production with soulful vocals and a great message. I haven't heard the Cudi version yet, but I have a feeling this is an improvement. If this wasn't already someone else's song, this'd be a great single. Novel is just amazing, can't wait for the album.

People are going to REALLY start hating on me for saying this, but this is 10x better than CuDi's version. I would be able to offer audio proof, but his people refused to have the record featured anywhere on the net. When that changes, we will of course provide his version for you.
As for Novel, the man is without fail. He is versatile, but yet NEVER compromises any of his talents in lieu of another.

Novel is always doing his best. Liked the CuDi version but this Soul Version is just incredible. Novel has now taken two great songs (Mad World and this) ans made them his own.

@ GStan10 - He can rap as well. For me the lyrics don't have to be good; the voice makes up for everything even though there is nothing to make up. The Prod. works well with his voice to make the best combination possible |

Holy Sh*t! I've missed the Booth lately (sorry I haven't been on; life has conspired against me lately), and this is why! Tracks like this! I love this! It's classic to me, because i will keep listening to it for a while.
Only problem i have with this is the fact that you can't turn it up too loud. I love blaring my tracks. But, that doesn't kill this tracks replay value AT ALL. |
