If you’re reading this on Sunday night you probably don’t have a hot date for Valentine’s Day. That’s alright, you’re better off with DJBooth anyway. We never try to change you, we’re always here for you and, best of all, we bring along some mood music. Here to shoot a musical arrow through our hearts is Defying the Predictable co-author Novel, who’s celebrating Cupid’s day with his (somewhat misleadingly titled) N.*.G.G.A. (Valentine’s Song). Produced, of course, by the man himself, N.*.G.G.A. appropriately leans on a sparkling piano line, smoothly subdued percussion and even a jazz sax to create a seductive sonic template for Novel to drop some subtly sexy vocals complete with lyrics about, what else, bedroom magic: “Say hello to my bed…say goodbye to those clothes.” How about it? Is this track worthy of being labeled a classic between-the-sheets slow jam? Regardless of how your personal rating, on behalf of Novel and everyone here at DJBooth, wherever you are, whomever you’re with, happy Valentine’s Day.

Novel is in the category of artists where it isn't a question if his submissions to the Booth are feature-worthy or not. Its a matter of whether or not they are good or great songs. I find this record to be somewhere in-between. I cannot get into the hook, but maybe its because I am not in the right V-day mood. Maybe? Regardless, the song offers another glimpse into the ultra-talented mind of one of our Booth favorites.

I didn't think this was the greatest offering from Novel. He is definitely capable of more. I just couldn't get with this for some reason.. Maybe a little too slow for me. I did like that saxophone though.. That was sick.

i just think novel's style is too "pure", like he gives off that polished, non-crazy vibe...like thats good for a candle light dinner but idk

If Novel is "too smooth" than that's exactly what you want to hear on a bedroom burner like this; though I would challenge you to listen to a track Raindrops (off Defying the Predictable), ft. Novel and Slaughterhouse, and say he's still too "pure".
Anyway, definitely a worthy to the V-Day tradition. I'm still going with D'Angelo's "Untitled" as my number one pick, but after a few more listens it might crack the top ten. |

Man right off the bat I thought this was Lyfe Jennings. Not sure this works for a good valentine's song but it is a song I can just chill out to.

Not his best but still better than most. The old-school-esque, name-spellin’ hook is refreshingly enjoyable.
