We interrupt your regularly-scheduled programming to bring you some breaking news: pigs are flying, temperatures in hell have reached a record low and Novel has recorded a track in which he sings the line, “B*tches ain’t sh*t,” as well as threatening to “go and get [his] shotgun.” Left off the ATL native’s long-awaited debut set, The Audiobiography, due to concerns with its lyrical content, Momma Said is the last thing Novel’s fans would expect, but that shock value is precisely what makes it so effective. Over his and Tony Reyes’ twangy bass-guitar beat, the artist describes a scenario that would leave any man apoplectic: not only has he caught his best friend getting it on with his girl, but said traitorous homey had the nerve to raid Novel’s wardrobe after the deed was done. Topped off with a vindictive guest verse from up-and-coming emcee Paranoid, MS is a well-crafted cut authentically depicting an ugly but very real set of emotions – to quote the artist, “In no way is this a disrespect to all women… Real music to me reflects a certain point in your life. Lets just say that moment ...was a very bad time for me.”

Unexpected? Yes, but that doesn't mean it cannot be enjoyable. Without any explanation or if you simply don't actually take the time to LISTEN to what Novel is saying, you might think differently. However, passionate (and real) music comes at a premium these days. Cutting room floor or not, Novel never strays from his own set of values. That is on display here.

It hasn't really sinked in my head that Novel has been featured in the djbooth twice on the same day. This is decent though, I slight different beat to work on him but it i can dig. (BANGER- PARANOID!!!)

The phone message in the beginning makes the track, gives the cut a real sense of realness. The subject matter may not be typical Novel, but the musical quality is. I'm loving this.

BANGER!!! GON' HEAD NOVEL!!!!! Production was crazy and Novel's hook was soulful but went hard at the same time. And MAN! Paranoid WENT OFF ON THIS!! He sounds like Papoose to me, but it is not a bad thing though. He lyrically ripped this track in half with his guest verse. I like this. Novel is quite versatile because this is a new type of track from him.
