Novel - Stressful
Artist: Novel
Featuring: Joell Ortiz
Producer: Noah "40" Shebib
Album: Joell Ortiz & Novel Present: Defying the Predictable
Label: Unsigned
Believe me, I want the cash, the cars and the clothes, but all the shine in the world don’t mean anything when life’s so Stressful, and I’m not the only who wants more than mere success. The Booth’s favorite singer/songwriter/producer Novel and the always on point Joell Ortiz have teamed up for the upcoming mixtape Defying the Predictable, and today they dropped the mixtape’s first leak Stressful, a gripping track that takes Drake’s Successful and flips the message completely. Joining Novel and Joell are producer Noah “40” Shebib, whose original beat is largely left untouched, and DJBooth newcomer Cri$style (a.k.a. The Ink), who overlays Stressful with some golden-voiced vocals. It’s hard to say this version is better than the original since it’s so different. I prefer to think of them instead as two sides of the same dope coin. For more music that defies the predictable, be on the lookout for Novel and Joell’s mixtape, dropping soon via DJBooth.net.

I love how they made it their own. The only way to use this instrumental again without it getting old was to reinvent it. Novel, Joell and The Ink do just that.

I loved how they did this because they didn't just "remix" the record, they completely changed the message. Creative stuff. Both artists really did well.

The singing on the hook was mediocre other than that it was a really good remix and message.

probably on of the dopest, well told stories of a poor life with the desire for respect and glory by a two true hiphop artist and a smooth but powerful voice by a wonderful songstress. I Love it.

I expected nothing less from Novel and Joell, but what really impressed me was Cri$tyle's vocals. This is the first I can remember hearing from her and she's got a gripping voice. With talent like this on one track there's no way it's anything less than a knockout.

i loved successgul so i was a little skeptical but i was happy the original beat was kept and these guys certainly did the song justice, not as good as drake and trey but close.

This beat by Noah "40" Shebib is easily one of the best that I experienced in '09. I still have find myself spacing out at moments, a little awed by it.
And when artists dropping gems of relateable virtues and values that are realistic in the lives of many going through relationships and difficult times over it, it's hard to find any flaws in that above statement. This cut only upped the anticipation for "Defying the Predictable". Gonna' keep this right next to Original and MH's version. Rating as usual. |

What a great sound! This is a very enjoyable mix where all of the artists compliment the project. If you happen to be stressed, this song will definitely release it and make you feel better.

a perfect example of ARTISTS. able to take such a smash hit, and re create it into something completely different. it's so creative it makes you appreciate the music that much more. that aside, these three work very well together. cri$tyle has a beautiful voice that compliments Novel & Joell perfectly. I like hearing Novel's flow too, instead of just the singing. Overall, amazing creative track! :)

this song is pretty damn creative. nice spin on the successful track. novel is one of my favorite singers. been following him ever since the sky might fall remake. and joell was a plus because i feel he's one of the most underated emcees and definetly needs his props.

The beat by itself is so simple yet its a CLASSIC!!!!
Throw Novel & Joell and you got yourself a hot song!! Like the switch on the topic too from the original!! Original is still better but this is a banger!! |

I'm a big fan of Novel. I loved "mad world." That's the song that really turned me onto him.
I love the "successful" beat and how they made this song their own. I'm really diggin Cri$tyle too |
