So I’ve got some good news and bad news. First the bad: it looks like Booth favorite Novel’s upcoming Audiobiography’s not going to see the light of day after some difficulties with Capitol Records (we’ll have to leave it at that). The good news? The multi-talented producer/singer/rapper/songwriter is determined to let the world hear at least some of the album’s best songs, starting with Caffeine and Cigarettes, a track with a gripping story that was co-written by the always innovative Cody Chesnutt. Over a live drum line, sparkling guitar melody and bouncing background vocals, Novel drops an ode to the power of nicotine and cigarettes, and the sometimes depressing effects of their absence on your mood. Hey, if Jamie can Blame It on the alcohol there’s no reason Novel can’t get away with “I’m sorry baby, I just haven’t had any coffee today.” Hey, it’s worth a try, right? Novel’s now back in the studio recording a brand new album, so you’ll just have to keep it locked for all the latest updates.

The production is HOT, just nice all around. this has a hot production not to mention i like when Novel SINGS. something in this song just carries it past rotation and i wud download.

Novel back again. I swear I don't think this man has anything out there that isn't 3 star material or better. He has really grown as an artist and this production went perfectly with the voice.

I DONT like the guitar.. its annoying and repetitive, however, I'm deeply saddened inside that Audiobiography wont be coming out.. that was the most hyped album EVER for me..

cigarettes are not good thing to sing about or glorify...not sexy, or attractive. Just means someone has a bad habit. Concept was done by Tweet years ago, she called it "smokin cigarettes"...wasnt really feelin this one at all

It is indeed saddening to know that "Audiobiography" won't be coming out, but to me its all good as long as Novel keep feeding us new music.
Anyhow, times have changed as it’s possible to succeed in the new do-it-yourself landscape, the one brought about by the Internet. And a label only puts distance between you and the market. No matter what, Novel's music will be heard, as many of his songs contain a sincerity and realness that many people can relate to. People do change when they are high. #fact |

I have to echo the statements about his album not dropping, was really looking forward to that! Nevertheless, this song is classic (if I can really say that at this point) Novel. Keep'em coming.
