Nitty Scott, MC - I Luv My Life
Artist: Nitty Scott, MC
Producer: 6th Sense
Album: Nitty Scott, MC: The Boombox Diaries (Vol. 1)
Label: Boombox Family
Recently elevated to online buzzmaker status thanks to a Monster freestyle featuring savage (but apparently unintentional) potshots at Nicki Minaj, Nitty Scott, MC describes herself as a “true backpack rapper with a rocket in that sh*t,” and derides wack femcees for being nothing more than “vaginas with mics.” If that all strikes you as a little intimidating, then you’ll likely be as surprised as I am when you click “play” on the B.K. native’s latest mixtape single/first Booth feature. Far from a gritty display of mic aggression, I Luv My Life is as carefree and catchy as it is lyrically astute. Backed by 6th Sense‘s mellow acoustic-guitar groove (complete with a synth hook inspired by Steely Dan’s Peg), Scott details her background, her hustle and her lofty ambitions in vivid, down-to-earth bars: “Bring it back like a tap to the spinal, hopscotch barrettes and boom box cassettes / Hustlers on corners and churches with steeples, I promise I’ll never disconnect from the people.” Those intrigued by this glimpse into Nitty Scott’s life should keep it locked – her latest mixtape, The Boombox Diaries (Vol. 1), has yet to receive a release date, but we’ll keep you posted.

As soon as Nitty Scott, MC started to pop up across the blogosphere, a few of my music staff members pointed her out. I was skeptical, since most female emcees these days only try to sell us their sex and not their music, but I gave her a chance (as we do for every artist out there). Boy, am I glad I gave her a chance. Park those expectations outside the Booth; Nitty will impress you.

I kinda dig it, but I'm not sure whether this deserves at spot on my ipod. I think Nitty Scott, MC could appeal to radio listeners without selling us her sex, as DJ Z said. (Although she's pretty good looking, I'm sure there's plenty out there that would consider buying...literally)

I am pleasantly surprised and impressed by Nitty Scott, MC. She has potential to be, lyrically, better than Nicki Minaj.

And that’s exactly one of the reasons why I love this girl. The fact that she doesn’t use sex to sell her music is big with me especially when it comes to female emcees.
I’m definitely looking forward to hearing more from Nitty. This is 5 starts to me. BTW, that’s one of my favorite De La Soul songs. |

We're all in agreement - it's great to see women making music, not softcore musical porn, but I have to be honest, I'm not sold on her lyrical ability. Or, more specifically, the lyrics are nice, but that flow needs a little more energy to really grab me.

I like this. This is cool right here. I usually don't give it up to female rap artists, but she did her thing on here. I'll check out some more tracks and the mixtape. Good lyrics.
