Like Tom’s Diner, the Suzanne Vega hit we’ve heard sampled in tracks by 2Pac, Gorilla Zoe, Mike Dreams, Al Gator and Kevin Cossom, soul standard A Change Is Gonna Come has received its share of rotation in the Booth, inspiring Urban Mystic‘s A Change Has Come, Izza Kizza‘s Runnin’ and now NIQUE‘s Booth debut, Long Time Comin. On the newly-leaked mixtape cut, the Henderson, Nevada representative (previously heard on Marion Write‘s Everybody Move) flows over a Chipmunk-speed sample from Sam Cooke’s original recording of ACIGC (courtesy of producer Jon Jon), explaining just how drastically he plans on changing the music game. On the tail end of verse one, he mixes rap with album-reviewing, heaping praise on a few of the most-buzzed-about artists and releases of the past year or so (Blueprint 3, So Far Gone and 808s & Heartbreak are “classic,” Asher‘s “nice,” Cudi‘s “brilliant…”) Those digging NIQUE’s u-NIQUE style can download his newly-released Framed & Unfocused mixtape at the link below – or, buy a “Purple” promotional T-Shirt at the artist’s MySpace and get a physical copy of the street album in the bargain.

 2 different looks from Westcoast underground tonight, I prefer this style more. Loved the beat, and the smooth flow made for a really enjoyable track. Headphone heaven right here.

There are some samples that are REALLY hard not to dig... and this is one of them. With or without the sample, though, its clear NIQUE has a very interesting sound that I found to be quite enjoyable. I need to give this mixtape of his a full listen.

Marion Write definitely won me over, and with his co-sign I had to check out Nique. Money. The man's definitely an up-and-comer.
On a side note, no one breaks down a track's production components like Richard. That man knows the origin of every sample ever made. Goddamn Richard, do work.

We need to add a "Sample of the Year" category to the Best of the Booth awards. "Tom's Diner," "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye," and "Change Gon' Come" could be a serious heater!
I think if the West Coast does indeed come back to the forefront, it won't be in its old form-but rather in the new format that Fashawn, U-N-I, the Dilated Peoples, Blu, and now NIQUE are offering up (and we at the Booth are proud to kick-start it!) |

The hook killed this song for me. Very few producers and artists can pull off the chipmunk sound, and I never been a fan of it. the sample here is done well however.
