K. Beatz

Late last month, Niko Lafre took us on a nighttime drive through the streets of Minneapolis, expressing his affection for his city without obscuring its dangerous side. While the freshly-released Hometown Love lacks its predecessor’s nocturnal theme, it paints a similarly shadowy portrait of the Mill City. Over K. Beatz‘s quietly intense synth boardwork, the emcee offers his girl a guided tour of his town, a place where “[people] die every day and kids can’t play outside.” Maryland’s Drew Love co-headines the track, contributing a smooth, yet ominous guest hook. Nikko’s MPLS LP is scheduled to hit online retailers July 15. In the meantime, fans can still stream and download his Survival: Face the World EP for free in the Booth.
