Nicki Minaj - Your Love
Artist: Nicki Minaj
Producer: Papa Justifi of the Knightwritaz
Album: Untitled Debut
Label: YM/CM/Universal Motown
People obviously love talking about Nicki Minaj, and looking at Nicki Minaj, but it’s starting to look like they may not be so interested in listening to Nicki Minaj. Despite a tsunami of hype, Minaj’s lead single Massive Attack has more or less flopped on the charts (and in the Booth). Unfortunately, I don’t really think her new single Your Love is going to help turn the tide. Your Love is as close to a slow jam as Nicki’s going to get, with producer Papa Justifi [of the Knightwritaz] flipping an Annie Lennox sample into a softly echoing track that Nicki fills with some of the slowest, most subdued rhymes we’ve ever heard from the usually schizophrenic emcee. Plus she decides to take on hook duties; not a lot of good decisions being made on this one. Then again, I’ve been wrong before (there was this one time…). As always, I’ll leave it up to the Booth to decide Your Love’s final fate. Either way, without a hit single, I wouldn’t be surprised if Nicki’s currently untitled debut album gets pushed back from its late summer release date.

Nicki, Nicki, Nicki. What are we going to do with you, darling? It's clear that plenty of folks found this record an attractive spin, since this past weekend Minaj released a new mixed/mastered version after she learned that radio MD's were playing a leaked/un-finalized copy for the past month. But, despite any success that this song might end up seeing on the charts, I still find it disappointing as compared to her guest feature work on other artists' singles.
The hype won't go away, but this won't increase it. |

Thank god this isn't another "Massive Attack" disaster. I like this. Nicki really changed up her style and it really shows in "Your Love." For starters, production sounds really smooth and is very easy on the ears. This may be the first time that Nicki has ever impressed with a track. This song sounds amazing on so many levels.
Nicki's verses sounded right at home on Papa's production. Hook was probably my favorite part of the track. May receive hate for my rating, but I loved every single aspect of this song. Everyone has their own interpretation as to what sounds good and this in my opinion is a near-classic. Nicki just made a believer out of me. Perhaps she isn't the worst female MC out right now. |

Don't listen to too much Nicki, but I'm used to her being more aggressive. This seems more teenie-bopperish, but it could actually work. I could see a bunch of girls gettin down to this in a club.

This song is MUCH better than Massive Attack. I could actually see this song being played. And if she makes another sexy video, than I could see it shooting up the charts.

I loved the mixtape version of this, and the mastered version is just as good. Good choice for a single. It shows her less-psycho side, a nice smooth track.

With the rap I've been brought up on, a solo female MC is such a foreign idea. Missy Elliot is the closest, but she's more of a pop artist than an MC.
I really like this look from Nicki. She's been killin other's features, but I've been waiting for a strong solo track. Good job |

Not feeling this at all. Nicki has some talent, but this song doesn't work. Too repetitive and sort of annoying. I'd be putting this in the trash bin if I had downloaded it. Not something worth listening to.

okay I've been bumping this song long since January off of her mixtape. So the "new" song isn't all that new folks. This production is my favorite song by her to date and I think this song will guarantee her even more fa,e and success. It takes a lot and I mean a lot for me to be able to bump a female rappers song, but boy this sure did it. I clearly disagree with you Z on this one. I never liked one song of hers yet but this mastered version did it for me. She needed a more radio girl record as Trina does every once in a while with 'Million Dollar Girl' as her last was. She shows her versatility on this one and love the sample. Better than 'Massive Attack', great jump for her.

I really want to give this a 4, mainly because that beat is dope! Nikki's verses are okay, but its mainly the chorus I have a problem with....Rappers, if you cant sing, Autotune WILL NOT fix it!!! Aggh it feels played out just talking about it! I think if Nicki gets an R&B cat like Chris Brown or Trey Songz to do the hook the track will vibe better...hopefully it gets her a release date because I'm quite interested to hear what a Nicki Minaj album will sound like. 3 stars

ive heard nicki come with some pretty strong flows, just not on her radio songs... this song is good for mainstream radio and her flow is ok, but the sample is definitely what makes this song buttery

A lot of Booth members got on Nikki Lynette for her Beneath My City track saying she should have had a guest singer on the chorus to bring it to the next level. I disagreed with that but COMPLETELY ADVISE Nicki Minaj to take that advice, get a guest R&B singer on your hook (and the last :30 of this song), toss your autotunes out the door, and stick to rapping.
The beat/production is really the best part of the song. Her verses are trash. Relieved at her different flow here but it doesn't save her borderline incest word play and the whole samurai Thailand verse makes no sense. History people! Please read up. Don't just throw a bunch of Asian references into a verse because it rhymes. |

As a career-starter it possibly suggests there are more horrible things to come. I understand the mounting pressure behind the scenes (for her) to be popular. What disappoints me is that, it seems she is giving up the fight (against label execs.) too early. Be strong b!tch, you're better than this.

Haven't really liked anything from Nicki since her verses on "Bedrock" and "Roger That" and just like those tracks I'm a fan of this. Didn't know Nicki was capable of a hook like that. Props!

@x20nickel - I don't think we are on such opposite sides of the fence. You just like it 2 stars more than I do, haha.
Also, as I am sure you've seen me write on these threads before, please stray away from labeling a record as "old." They just decided to give this song a chance at radio, so the last attribute it needs is "old." |

First off, its good to be on the booth once again. Nicki's new song is rather surprising that she came out trying to be a bad girl and freak. But it may work because alot of people been critizing Nicki's whole style of being a gimmick. Maybe its a fresh start for her and now we are really seeing the real Nicki Minaj.

Guess it just goes to show one man's garbage is another man's treasure. This does nothing for me; the sample's repetitive, Nicki can't sing and the lyrics are mediocre: "You've got spunk"? Spunk? Really?
Feels like the folks at the label locked her in the studio and told her not to come out until she had a slow jam. Different strokes for different folks. If you're loving this by all means go ahead, but it's a definite pass for me. |

This is Decent right here. Lyrically, Nicki has some skills, but then at the end of her rhymes its always a Dumb punchline. She sets it up lovely, only for the last few words to throw everything off. She does this Bar after Bar! Anyway...I like the smooth sound on here and it doesn't sound half bad. She is decent here.

I actually think this can be a hit (Massive Attack was a disaster)...Not giving it a 5 until she gets someone else for the vocals.
Unfortunately, I think Nicki is one of those who needs a collaborator for every song... |

Definitely better than Massive attack but just not what I would expect from Nicki. Yea I understand the appeal behind it but I could see this song blowing up with someone like Keri Hilson behind it.
The production is definitely top notch and deserves a listen regardless of the vocals. Yea the hook is a bit catchy but I don't think it has the staying power it should. |

I'm really impressed with Nicki on this one! The songs she has put out in the last few months have been major flops but I can see this killing on the charts.
The production is hypnotic and catchy and Nicki's lyrics are pretty good on here. Her voice is not the best on the chorus but it sounds good. Give her some time because she still has room for improvement. This song shows you the possibility of what Nicki Minaj can make with her singing and rapping abilities. |

I liked the production and the hook, though I wasnt a fan of any of the verses from Nicki. All that she's proven to me is that she can drop a reasonably solid guest 16, she has yet to prove that she can hold a song on her own in my opinion
