Nicki Minaj - Pound the Alarm
Artist: Nicki Minaj
Producer: RedOne, Carl Falk & Rami Yacoub
Album: Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded
Label: YM/CM/Universal Motown
Having twice tried to replicate the chart success of lead selection Starships and fallen short (see Beez in the Trap and Right by My Side), Nicki Minaj is pulling out the big guns for single number four off her sophomore set. Along with a video directed by Benny Boom, Pound the Alarm finds RedOne, Carl Falk and Rami Yacoub coming together to craft a dancefloor-scorching Eurodance backdrop for the YMCMB heavyweight’s hard-partying verses, as well as the obligatory anthemic chorus. Fans can find this high-energy cut and much more on Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded, available in stores and online as of April 2.

Another club/Pop/Dance joint from Nicki. I think it's OK as long as it stays in the club/bar setting and not in my car or headphones. Decent dance track though...

Its crazy to me the backlash that Minaj and camp are getting because of the style of music she shifted towards with this second album. You cannot hate on someone for putting themselves in position to become wealthy quick. Minaj didn't make this club sound popular, the people who listen to this type of stuff did...

Let's start with the production. It's nothing more than RedOne's attempt at a watered-down LMFAO track. The synths are just too soft, and it doesn't entertain enough until the breakdown. Most dance tracks are formulaic, but manage to use unique sounds in such a way that you don't notice the formula. The facade breaks within the first five second of the song on this one.
Minaj's rapping on this is devoid of everything you would want from a rapper. It's devoid of metaphors. It's nonsensical, but not in the intentional manner that Nicki normally raps. Its like this song tried to make some amount of sense, but failed miserably. Even her singing on this is flat. It sounds like she tried to copy Rihanna's style, and it does not work for her. Again the lyrics here fall short. The chorus has nothing to do with the verses. When I think pound the alarm I think of hitting the snooze button in the morning, and thats about it. |

Nicki is starting to sound like Pitbull: none of what she's saying makes sense.

I'm honestly starting to get sick of MInaj's candy-sweet singing flow it is ridicule and makes me sing.
As for tracks I think she needs to decipher between fans and hit out tracks that either pop/dance (Super Bass) and others that are purely rap (i.e. Roman's Revenge). After Starships, I'm convinced her songs would be better if they were halved into their belonging genres. This track anyway is a tad annoying and a catchy hook which I reckon may see her get club's remixing this into a dancing trendsetter. For a normal listen as djblaze says not in a car or in headphones. |

I would expect this to be another huge club banger similar to Starships. I'm glad that she had more hip-hop on the album but still, at the end of the day, the most mainstream success will come from songs like this one.

pure garbage..only in a techno club does this song need to be played. Her and flo rida should do a album together since all they can do is sell out.
