Nickelus F - Stand Tall
Artist: Nickelus F
Producer: Dub Sonata
Album: Season Premiere Mixtape
Label: Rayni Day Ent
For some, the mere act of staying alive can be very difficult. Don’t take it from me, though, just watch Mary J. Blige’s No More Drama video or have a sit-down interview with Donald Trump’s butler – he’ll tell you how cruel the world can be. But if you would rather make the Booth your one-stop shop, you can hear Nickelus F. not only tell you about the troubles he has, but how he has found the strength to overcome them on his new track Stand Tall. With a Dub Sonata beat and piano thump that trudges along as heavily and confidently as Gary Coleman in a pair of size twelve Tims, Nickelus delivers the rhymes of a champ. We don’t have to search hard to find the emotion on this track, as it’s evident in Nickelus’ voice that he has indeed been standing tall. I don’t doubt he would encourage all of us to do the same. Make sure to get your remote control ready for Nickelus’ Season Premiere mixtape, set to drop May 31.

After seemingly tens of "unofficial" pre-release singles and releases, I am pleased to finally have the "official" mixtape single in the Booth. Like Matt said, its so obvious when an emcee actually believes what he spits and conveys this through passionate bars. The downtrodden production isn't exactly inspiring like Nick's bars, but it all seems to come together.

Nickelus F.'s flow is pretty dope on this, but I'm gonna have to agree with @DJ Z about the production.

Been waiting for another Nicky F upload. I hope thee Mixtape will have songs that will outshine this song's production though. It is a good Mixtape song, but I feel the production is off a bit for me. Nicky is good on this one,, but kinda disappointed for the Mixtape single.

F def carried a very under produced beat, although in this case less is more.

My favorite track of the day. Ok, so the beat's maybe not stellar, but Nickelus' message here is inspiring, and he drops a flow to match. On repeat.

I like what I'm hearing. Definitely not a classic, but the record provided me with a good listen all the way through. Hook could have been better and as the song progresses, there are instances that really sound boring. I suppose I could listen to this again, but I wouldn't take the time to search for it in my iPod. Not bad.

Solid MC. Great to see him doing something after his collaborations with Drake. Definitely someone to look out for in 2010.

Nickelus F sounds like hes stumbling over his own flow when he delivers his lyrics, it makes it very hard to listen to the message hes trying to communicate. The only thing that really sounds clear at all is the hook, and thats not gfood enough.

Production-wise, it’s a pretty straightforward piece, but I like it. Although it does get rather repetitive after awhile. Overall, Nickelus F's strong performance is well-supported. Rotation-Stuff!

Lol @ the Meagan Good line - most memorable were "I'm like mustard on a canker sore" and the more inspirational "Shackles with no Shackles/Slaves to our own ways"
Stand Tall is for sure a head bobber. Put me in a chill vibe. Type to hear after a rough day before trying to sleep it off. I agree with all those who said the production was this song's weak link. |
