Pink Floyd’s Shine On (You Crazy Diamond) was an epic, nine-part composition dedicated to former band member Syd Barrett, whose heavy use of LSD had driven him permanently over the edge. Heavy stuff. Thankfully, this Shine On, the inaugural leak off Nickelus F.‘s forthcoming street album, is both shorter and much less depressing, though C4‘s sampled boardwork retains a little bit of that inimitable Pink Floyd gloom. Over the Wisguy Productions beatsmith’s classic rock backdrop, the Richmond, Va. up-and-comer (and freestyle series alum) chronicles his artistic grind in measured but intense opening and closing bars, and house favorite XV laces the track’s middle portion with a characteristically engaging mix of wit, nostalgia and insight: “I ain’t a bad kid but mama said ‘Stay grounded;’ Now I miss the room I used to write in when [I was] grounded.” If this spacey, unconventionally fresh mixtape banger piques your interest, you’ll most definitely want to tune in to Nickelus F.‘s channel in early May, when his latest street album is set to make its Season Premiere.

Similar to an artist (well, some artists), I'm able to listen to a record and immediately know what type of negative criticisms it might receive. After listening to "Shine On" some members might say this is "too slow," "boring," or that the drum pattern doesn't fit the old school vibe.

Well, I am here to tell everyone who listens that I doubt any of these potential sidesteps will effect your listening experience. The mix could have been a bit sharper, but overall this is a cool record.

To echo others, a little too slow for me to really love. The intro was a bit too long as well making way for a 5+ min track, but XV killed this at least. 3 star, hook is holdin this back from banger status.

My only complaint about this track is the hook. A hook for me doesn't necesarily make or break a track but it does have a significant influence on play life, and with this track it could go either way. XV does enough here to pull the track out the slump with a killer verse and helps [me at least] ignore the weak hook.

Great sample selection but not fully utilized to a knockout effect. Nicely done on guitar-sample, but it felt a little repetitive throughout the song. And the layered drum-patterns is quite common too. Nickelus provides a performance that equals the instrumental in prowess but its XV who makes his presence felt on mic, adds a memorable verse with focused delivery. The end result is a bit lacking, still Rotation fa sho!

apart from the intro and the hook i really enjoyed this. xv is hot right now and nickelus did well. like cb said the hook is holding back the banger rating.

XV's verse was dope, though the production & the hook ruined this song. Nickelus F didnt deliver with his verse either (ive heard better verses from him).
