Ne-Yo - Never Knew I Needed

I’ll be honest. I wasn’t planning on seeing Disney’s new movie The Princess & The Frog. But I am planning on listening to every track Ne-Yo (a.k.a .the reigning King of R&B) releases, so imagine my surprise when I found myself listening to The Princess & The Frog soundtrack this morning for Ne-Yo’s latest offering Never Knew I Needed. Actually when you think about it, the pairing makes a lot of sense. Ne-Yo’s always classy style is the perfect fit to give Disney some updated R&B edge, and on Never Knew I Needed Ne-Yo proves that just because you’re writing for a kids’ movie doesn’t mean you can’t make grown-up music. Ne-Yo’s vocals soar over lush production and while the lyrics are certainly family friendly, they’re far from corny. All told, this might be one of the strongest testaments to his writing ability we’ve heard since Irreplaceable. The man might just have made it respectable to buy The Princess & The Frog Soundtrack when it drops November, 24.

This is a good sound from Ne-Yo. I like some of his other stuff better, but this is a very likeable track and seems like it will fit the new movie well.

I love the fact that Ne-Yo is a mature artist and never seems to feel pressured to fit in with young kids out today. He never gets overly sexual or has remakable dance moves but just has a connection with fans that's undeinable.
I'm not sure if this is one of my favorites by him but what other male R&B singer can say that they did a song for a Dinsey movie. |

Ne-Yo could write hits in his sleep. Period. I won't see this film or buy the soundtrack, but this doesn't get rotated and beyond.

Ne-Yo is so fresh. I always listen to everything I see by him. It's cool that he's recording for that movie. I can't wait for him to drop another album though.

When I found out this was going to be on a Disney film, I was a little nervous. No matter what the outcome though, I will still be an avid Ne-Yo fan. To my surprise, this beat his last single "Part of the List" by a longshot, so its by no means bad at all! I love it! Got a good feel to it, not to mention this is a good look for Ne-Yo.

Nathan must be on some drugs. He wants to crown anyone not named R. Kelly "King of R&B." Hilarous! Any who, not a bad tune but not a typical standout track for a disney move you'll gush over.

I'm happy as I'm hearing something different from the usual r&b ballad. I gotta say this track is perfect, nothing lacks: wonderful music and beat, sweet and catchy melody and great vocals! Good it's a Disney movie song!

This sounds like a perfect song for a Disney movie. Neyo can't do no wrong. His songwriting/behind the scene skills are amazing! A success story from writer to singer. The man has been on some serious grind with all these random, unclassified, almost daily leaks. Solid four stars.

I grew up on quality Disney music. It was more wholesome than some of the other stuff out and the vocalists were actually really talent. They can add another talent artist to their list. This record is really great! I Love the production and Ne-Yo puts his foot in this one!

@H First of all, I don't do drugs, I'm just naturally this messed up. Second, you're right, I am obsessed with the "King of R&B" title, and if you go read my Ne-Yo review you'll see that I have the crown to him a year ago and haven't wavered since. for me the "who's the best in r&b" discussion is on par with the "who's the best player in the NBA" or "which sister was hotter in Sister Sister" debate. What can I say, I love this music ish.

This just goes to show that Ne-yo is seriously for anybody! You can show it to the kids, your grandma, your girl, whoever. Not my favorite song but it fits its purpose.

Can't help but to think of the late great King of Pop. Ne-Yo seems to channel him in this song. I really like this. I'm not sure what other artists are on the soundtrack but this song will definately make it sell major numbers.
