Every summer has its hip-hop fads, and, if Ben J and Legacy of the New Boyz have their way, ‘09’s is going to be ‘jerkin.’ For those who aren’t aware of the budding movement (we’re admittedly a little late to the party on this one), allow me to summarize: already a full-on epidemic among West Coast youth, the geeked-up dance craze is on the verge of becoming a national phenomenon, fueled by the Boyz’ regional hit You’re a Jerk. Those who follow my track reviews (much love!) know I’m not above the occasional juvenile wisecrack, so why have I avoided the blindingly obvious not-quite-double entendre? Well, the duo make the joke for me—spitting lines like “We pulled up to the party ices on my shirt and got geeked up everybody jerkin/ We was jerkin’ to the right jerkin’ to the left…” over Legacy’s own minimal, percussion-driven beat, the New Boyz have crafted an innuendo-laden cut that, in addition to being catchy as hell, is guaranteed to freak out PTA members nationwide. In fact, I’m tempted to pose as a concerned parent and pass this one along to Bill O’Reilly—the ensuing wave of faux-outrage may be just the thing to get the New Boyz’ currently-untitled debut LP a solid release date.

Sometimes, we fail to come through and support a "movement" or "sound" from jump street. Such was the case with the NEW BOYZ. Honestly, I wasn't sold on these dudes. But after a few phone calls and some feedback from our music staff... I am sold.
Not my "taste" per say, but unique, catchy and fun.

This kinda sounds like a mixture between the Pack and PacDiv to me... I can't hate on this cuz I've always been supportive of the hipster rap movement, which this seems to fall into for me. The minimal production is sort of a trademark, and the laid back flows fit well over top.

This song is killing the radios right now! The beat is catchy and the lyrics are simple but good enough. This song does get annoying after a while but I can spin it every once in a while.

I like joints like this. Ice Creamer's music . This reminds me definitely like The Pack, or Neptunes or Fam-Lay. I heard a joint like this called "Money Being Made" by Big Sean on his "Finally Famous" mixtape.
Definitely a dope joint. I like this creative, hyphy feel that is backed by a movement. Love it. |

I didnt like the line 'Your a Jerk' being repeated through the track, but both these two sounded pretty good over some nice sounding production.

I've never really understood the whole "Hyphy" movement, but this seems like a prime example of it. I'm sure there are some crazy dances to this song, so for that reason alone, its easily in rotation. Like Juanito_88 said, I would've thought this was the Pack just by listening to it.

I think the dance is hecka STUPID. Some people think it's cool n everything but you'll never see me doin that sh*t. Anyway though (lol) I do like the song...not quite a banger but I hear it on the radio all the time and I don't change the station...so yeah it's cool. |

the first time i herd this track i thought it was catchy! but i listened to it once more and thought well heres another one hit wonder. yes its blowin up the radio but, for how long! to me it feels like another kriss kross movement more than anything!
where im from we make music from the heart not because thats the fade right now, or it will be huge in the clubs! we make music cuz it make our soul speak. and express ourselves through music! hopefully this two cats prove me wrong! cuz this song has the club bumpin for the time being. i have a few cats ask me for it in the clubs . it works like the soulja boy cut did will they have any other track besides your a jerk? |

i love the production on this! when i heard it on the radio i instantly searched for the instrumental... too bad i couldn't find it lol. btu anyways these boys had the perfect flow for this beat. they did basically did everythign necessary to make this a hit, this is a hit. this will go hard in the car, in the club, and should be a major hit. One of my favorite songs out right now.

Surprised by the high ratings. I honestly didn't like this song so much. I can't understand what's special in it! Yeah the beat is cool but they sound extremely boring. Plus I HATE that background sample saying "You're a Jerk"...annoying! To me it can't be more than ok
