New Boyz - Back Seat
Artist: New Boyz
Producer: The Cataracs
Album: Too Cool to Care
Label: Shotty/Warner Bros.
As reader responses to their various features attest, there were many who initially thought Skinny Jeans and a Mic duo New Boyz weren’t built to last. Too Cool to Care what the doubters think, however, Cali natives Legacy and Ben J have kept on trucking; having won many of our readers over with July 2010’s Break My Bank, the Boyz are back to convert even more skeptics to believers on their latest single, a dancefloor-packing ode to Backseat lovin’. Backed by Club Love production crew The Cataracs’ syncopated percussion and sizzling synths, the twosome show their game-spitting skills, doing their damndest to persuade some lovely ladies to come and kick it in the back of their whip. Complete with the flirtatious hook vocals of Far East Movement affiliate Dev, this joint has all the makings of a club smash – or have I got it twisted? If you like what you’re hearing, keep it locked for the latest on the New Boyz’ sophomore full-length, scheduled to drop sometime in spring of this year.

I can't doubt these guys. I just won't. Furthermore, I won't question anything Far East Movement touches. Though I can't see myself listening to "Back Seat," I know plenty of women and clubgoers (mostly one in the same, ha!) who will and repeatedly. This could make an impact on the charts before we know it.

I thought New Boyz first album was pretty solid imo, and everything I've heard from their new project has been pretty good too. This is clearly their best of the new material (although Break My Bank was pretty hot, can't front). The addition of Dev was clever, and having met him and F.E.M., he has pure talent and is an all around cool dude. This will hit hard in the clubs and possibly urban radio.

In my opinion, The New Boyz aren't the worst thing to happen to Hip-Hop over the past decade. In fact, I actually like this track. The hook is catchy, the production is catered to the club and party scene and both Ben J and Legacy serve up some decent verses. I think they might have something with "Backseat," but maybe it's just me.

Liked everything except the chick in the chorus. Which unfortunately means I heard my least favorite part the most times...

I think you should have left that sound where Brittany lost it.

Dev is not a member of FM, by the way.
Nice club-pop production; I can see more radio potential than 'Break my Bank'. |

These artists are both at the forefront of the newer generation of radio hip-hop so it was a good move to team up for this record... Could blow up, club and radio will eat this up

No hate here, but to say this is out of my demographic would be an understatement.. I won't be the grumpy old man, enjoy this teens, but it's not getting another listen in the Nathan S. household.

This song is what it is. Like "RyanSx" said this is a club/party song. And in those standards this is pretty good. Actually one of the better songs from New Boyz.

Its been a lil while sense ive heard from them.... After they had their hit (your a jerk) they will never get back up there again. They made an instant radio song tho. This will be bumpin on 98.5 in a couple of days, no doubt. This song is really banging tho... The hook is really nice. And i really love the production from The Cataracs.

This is a straight club track and its FIRE. I think this is better than any of BEP latest tracks. New Boyz got a very likeable song on their hands.

Yeah, Dev isn't a part of FEM (and @ cb126405 Dev is a girl) But anyways, I like the techno/electric style beat. I've been listening to music from the Cataracs for years now and I can see their influence on this track. Overall, it was better than what I was expecting and I have to admit, I thought the New Boyz were going to be one hit wonders, but they're proving me wrong. I respect it. 3.5/5

Not really feelin this one as much as You're A Jerk or Dot Com, but you definitely can't mess with anything that Dev and The Cataracs touch these days. These are the same producers behind hits like Like A G6 and Bass Down Low. This will definitely get played on radio and in the club.

average club trakkkkkkk soz.
Poppy and does make me reminisce about their track you're a jerk. (long time for me anyway). Alrite could get annoying over a repeated play. the vocals by Dev provide deviation away from the annoying screech (the car???) no wonder they mention the back seat.. anyhows it flows. |
