Nephu, an Atlanta-based all-male R&B quartet whose previous features include the Midnight Black-produced I Should Know U and the Q Da Kid-assisted She Got That Fire, are back once again inside our DJBooth. Though Mack, Gabe, Armand and Shawn operate without major-label backing, the foursome has managed to scoop up Grammy award-winning producer Adonis (see Marques Houston’s Circle) and Bad Boy’s Yung Joc on Dance for Me, a slowly rocking, club-ready record that plays host to the group’s very natural sounding vocal harmonies. There is currently no release date for the group’s yet-untitled new project, which is set for release under the guidance of indie label Noontime UNLTD.

Nephu is a blast from the past! Can we say Jagged Edge, Nu Edition, or insert other groups here. The style of the song is just a little too old school for me, I'm really into the new wave of R&B at the moment so this is just bad timing. I like these guys though, they have mad talent. And Joc is starting to give Luda a run for the title of who can carry a verse on an R&B track because he's been doin his thing on other people's songs lately. I will put this into rotation but not my favorite.

Nice smooth feel/vibe to it, good vocals from nephu, nothing new tho sounds like a stereotypical male R&B group if you know what I mean...

The throwback R&B swag is pretty official. I can definitely dig it. I probably wouldn't listen to it a lot, cuz I'm not a big fan of this style of R&B, put I wouldn't mind hearing it rolling with a fine breeze.

Joc should've been replaced with Fabo. Joc done his part right though. In rotation, voices and production is good

As soon as this came on, I felt what most of the Booth was talking about. It reminds me of some old Ready for the World.
The production is on point here. The vibe overall is smooth and definately sexy. Maybe its not the best song out there, but it showcases the talent these gentlemen posess and that means there's potential for a banger later. I'll definately be looking out for these guys. Joc did his thing on this track to. This is fo sho going on my slow jams playlist! |
