Neako - I'm On It ft. Vertical Jones
Artist: Neako
Producer: NeakO
Album: The Rubix Cube: Green Edition [Hosted by DJ Green Lantern]
Label: LVLYSL / iHipHop Distribution
It’s official: Toronto emcee and reader favorite Drake has graduated to the big leagues. Why do I say that? Well, every great emcee has his sound-alikes, and Booth newcomer NeakO is, vocally, a dead ringer for the Degrassi graduate. With that out of the way, though, there’s a lot to like about the New Jersey native’s newly-released mixtape cut I’m On It, which finds him taking a left-of-center approach to one of rap’s favorite lyrical topics—though the verses revolve around Neak’s grind for currency, the artist’s backs his “Never chasin’ women ‘cause I’m steady chasin money” rhymes with an odd, spacey instrumental featuring industrial percussion flourishes, ambient synths, looped vocal samples, and… some type of siren (which is actually kind of unsettling at first). It’s a little unconventional, but with the help of Vertical Jones’ Autotuned hook, and NeakO’s relaxed flow, I’m On It should pique many listeners’ interest, and help build buzz for the 4/20 release of the emcee’s Green Lantern-hosted The Rubix Cube: Green Edition mixtape.

Before a barrage of anti-auto-tune comments start flooding the thread, allow me to jump in and lend props to NeakO. If you get past the fact he sounds EXACTLY like Drake, you'll notice his talents on the mic (and behind the boards) are stellar.
Looking forward to Monday's mixtape release. |

Banger just for total execution, I appreciate all artist that do their own production. He came at a common topic with his own style from the bottom up. the production is a bit overwhelming at first but you get over it quickly enough to enjoy the song.

I like how they mix various sounds in the production. The hook is average but Im not feeling the autotune for whatever reason. NeakO sound a lot like Drake but what do you expect. In rotation really catchy song

I like the strange production, it gives the track the spark it needs. His flows sound pretty tight over it, and the hook is what you'd expect from an auto-tuned hook.

I wasn't sure what to think about it on the first listen... but after few more listens ...
The formulaic hook does sounds good to ma ears ... I also do think the tribal-tinged prod is catchy and works well & gives an xtra edge to the song ... This could have been easily placed on 'So Far Gone Mixtape' |

He sounds nothing like Drake. Or at least I don't hear it. The video for the song is dope too. http://videos.onsmash.com/v/mJLBIhM7iH9HPfbF

There are so many things going on here on this track. Upon the first listen it could sound a little mixed-up, all over the place and confusing....but in the end it all comes together so nicely.
Got a very space-age feel to it, but the "tribal" beat over top makes it what it is. I'm ok with auto-tune on a hook as it's become pretty standard these days and if it's done right it tends to work well, like here. Alleged Drake "copy-cat" or not, NeakO shows up with a Banger - and also, comparisons aside, if it sounds good, who the eff cares? |

I can see the similarity for Drake but its nothing substantial. The production is a little overwhelming at some times. This song is alright, but def not a banger for me

Yea he does sound like Drizzy, but F that, that beat is from outer space. And if anyone's wonderin@ yes I do think Drake should bless the remix.

Rapping aside, I really like the singing. In fact I wish there was more of it. Great production.

This is the best track I have heard on here all night. I am a Drizzy Drake Rogers fan and I do feel the resemblance in style and flow.
The production on this joint is so fire!!! It's smooth and hard at the same time. How'd he do that? LOL. |

This track may sound a lil confused at the beginning, but I really liked it. The production is perfect, full of energy, and the melody is weird but good. It's a banger, I love it!

I agree with the guy above who said this sounds smooth and hard at the same time. The production is like Pure Moods stuff but he comes hard on it. Unique sounding song but it works for me. Worked out to it last night and got a lot of energy from it. Anyway, NeakO has pretty much ensured that next time I say his name on this site, definitely checking it out.

fellas let's face it girls love autotuned songs. They don't care who it is they hear that autotune smooth sound over a hard beat and their gonna crank their sh*t. That being said it earns a spot in my rotation. However I agree with richard's intro that NeakO is a Drake soundalike and Vertical Jones sounds like a lazy T-pain impression, it still gets rotation on acount of the club appeal. "Hips don't lie" hhhhaaaa
