Believe it or not, being “Number One Chief Rocka” is less like being the Highlander than it is like winning a Miss America pageant; not only can can the title be held by more than one individual, but a new Rocka is selected each year. So, with that said, we’re extremely proud to present Chief Rocka 2010, underground emcee Neako. On this new mixtape freestyle, making its world premiere on our frontpage, the Jersey native introduces us to a more retro side of his artistic persona, flowing over K. Def‘s sampled sax/bass beat from Lords of the Underground’s classic joint. Lyrically, the freestyle series alum follows in his forebears’ footsteps, delivering bar after bar of larger-than-life braggadocio: “Held down my team, homeboy with one gun / and I don’t mean the hammer, I mean how I’m nice with the grammar, verbal AK, I will blam’ya.” So, is NeakO worthy of holding the Chief Rocka crown? I think I know the answer, but I’ll let you have the final say. In any case, fans will be able to hear more from this talented up-and-comer on his The Rubix Cube: Yellow Edition mixtape re-release, set to drop June 23.

Dope. Dope. Dope. Dope. Dope. Oh, did I mention this freestyle remake was dope? Makes me want to go back and check out Lords of the Underground (as I am honestly not that familiar with their catalog).

I'll give him the crown after this, it is hot. Dang wasn't expecting this. He jumps on this and doesn't look back, great lyrics merked it.

First neako track I've heard thats really blown me away. I'm a big fan of the production and neako flows over it VERY nicely.
4.5 rounding up. |

If I was an Indian I’d still be the chief. That is a classic song to freestyle over. Never heard of this guy before, but I like his flow.

I've never heard of Lords of the Underground but this remake of it is sick. No can argue that Neako is nice on the mic but I'm curious if anyone can say that if this is better than the orginial. Has anyone, other than Richard, heard the orginial?

So is Neako the same as Neak? They sure sound different lol but on the beat, Neako sounds attatched to it, he spits pretty well but couldn't really get into it

All my real hip-hop heads went pistachios as soon as they heard the sample, and impressively Neako did the original justice. The flow has its highs and lows, but overall a solid effort. Neako is indeed the chief rocker...until someone else dares challenge him. Anyone?
