Ever since Chicago-born emcee Neak dropped Make It for the Booth community to rock to, we’ve all had our eyes (and ears) fixed to see what kind of new work would come from this burgeoning hip-hop genius. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long before we were introduced to the stellar Dear Sky and now his latest offering, Film School. On Film School, Neak builds the track with his signature mellow flow while retaining a sense of pride easily heard in his delivery. The jazz-driven, soothing quality of the cut takes fans and listeners to another realm thanks to producer Mulatto Patriot, who’s managed to create a melody that won’t soon leave our heads. Film school made Steven Spielberg famous and it might do the same for Neak - give this track a couple of listens and see if you don’t catch yourself humming it for the rest of the day. Look out for Neak’s DJBooth.net-hosted album 84 Vol. 2 (The Silent Fiasco) due out on March 2, and an exclusive In the Mix interview, dropping this Friday!

never thought i would hear a song titled "Film School" shout out to my boys in there in chicago...i don't think i can get into this like that even though i like the beat a little but this also has bad engineering...get those vocals up and did he just recycle common...it seems he didn't try on this so if you dont try...

Neak is not for everyone (as evidence by the early "1" star rating from member DjKidd), but we here at the Booth dig him. The dreamy, light production is a welcome change-up from the usual assortment of beats on 99% of the submissions (shouts to Mulatto Patriot) and Neak's vocals match perfectly. You cannot get excited about a record like this, but you can appreciate it.

Maybe you just have to be in a certain mood to listen to this song. The dreamy beat was nice but soon got boring. Neak's light voice and the hook was wack and distracing from his lyrics. The song could of been better but was to mellow for me.

I thought the beat was going into the right direction but then it did a 180 on me and I wasn't expecting it. It took a turn for the worse and Neak gotta put up the volume on his mic because I can't really hear what he's saying and thats a shame because he's a pretty decent rapper.

I can completely see how not everyone would be feeling Neak's ultra laid back flow, but I have to give it up to him for pushing the boundaries. Another one of those "if I was high I bet I'd love this one to death" tracks.

Great Common, "I'll tell you the rest when I see you" reference, by the way.

I like it, i think the laidback beat compliments his laid back flow. Don't see why all the hate. In rotation

His flow is on point and didn't bother me at all, but that beat while is easy to grasp at first, wears out its welcome after a couple minutes. Overall, nice listen but I don't think I'll be playing it again.

I'm on the fence about this one. I like it for about 30 seconds, then I don't, the I do again. Sometimes I think I like the beat, then I feel it's too repetitive, which is a shame because it's beautiful. I usually like mellow delivery from artists, but his is almost TOO mellow. But, then again, it's different.

I LOVED "Dear Sky". This is just ok for a couple of reasons. Engineering on this "recycled beat" doesn't meet my standards. Neak's laid back contribution to this doesn't work for me either, but that's mostly due to the overly present boardwork. We'll See.
