The Year of the Gentlemen won’t begin in June as expected; Def Jam announced yesterday that Ne-Yo’s third studio album won’t be released until August 5. However, with Closer making a move up the charts, all the talented singer/song-writer needs is an additional single that grabs the public’s attention. Auditioning to be that much-needed secondary single is the Jonathan “J.R.” Rotem-produced Trouble. On this up-tempo jam, the Las Vegas native sings about a girl who he knows is dangerous, but somehow cannot stay away from—in fact, he just wants her more and more. Following up the platinum-plus In My Own Words and Because of You, Ne-Yo’s Gentlemen has some lofty shoes to fill; is the singer in trouble?
I LOVE the guitar at the intro of this song! It KILLS!, J.R. ripped this for Ne-Yo!, I would love to see Ne-Yo's Year Of The Gentlemen come out the same time as Usher's Here I Stand, talkin about some competition!!, Def Jam has done it again!.
J.R. is one of the greatest new producers, and it seems like this new album has a lot of soft club songs. ne-yo truly kills this song. I like the fact that he can use a similar format and sound brand new. It seems as tho J.R. and neyo sat down and talked about how the beat should go because it fits so perfect.
J.R did his thing on this! Ne-Yo snapped as well. This reminds me of Kevin Michael's "Weekend Jumpoff" track. It gots that retro Michael Jackson "Off the Wall" type feel. I can DEFINITELY ROCK WITH THIS BABY! 5 Stars! I need a remix to drop with a Ye verse! C'mon Mr. West! Finally, a hot joint.
DAMN! Ne-yo is at the top of my list as far as my favorite artists are concerned. All of his songs are different and he has such a good voice! He is underrated as an artist, this album better get him some recognition. This song is hot! Definetly a "trouble" kind of song, haha. Sounds like it would be an Usher track too. This is a CLASSIC....yeah, I went there.
LOL...Okay Kayleb101. But it sounds like a co-sign there for cb126405. LOL. Anyone else wanna drop their opinion? I say Ne-Yo over Usher for this new album fa sho!
Alright I had to come out of reviewer retirement for this one. God Damn! This is classic right here. What more can I say? J.R. Rotem's production is on fire and Ne-yo sounds like he was born to sing this track. From the first note to the last this song doesn't have a down moment in it and that is rare. This @*#$! is so good I don't even want to hear a remix unless the King himself Mike jumps on here. I don't mind remixes, but I don't think its possible to make this song any better than it already is. To me Ne-yo just shitted on everything I have heard R&B lately.
Wow ne-yo is really going after the upbeat tempos lately. I'm probably in the top 10 percentile of ne-yo fans around, but I really don't think this is great at all. I suppose it's because I really liked the style of his last 2 albums. That being said, it's still better than 90% of songs out there, the beat just didn't work for me. In all honesty, I think '08 is gonna be the year of the Usher.
The year's of Usher's shine to me was 2003-2006. This new material he has seems to the be the worst of his career (in my opinion, and I'm definitely an Usher fan). Ne-Yo is finna smash Usher this year. Can I get some more cosigns? C'mon people!
I saw Ne-Yo opening up for Alicia Keys on Saturday and he absolutely tore the stage up! It is no question that he is going for a more experimental sound on this album and if all goes well, Ne-Yo will be placed among the elite R&B artists in this generation.
You can't really compare Usher to Ne-Yo. That's not fair. Usher has been around since he was 15 probably. Ne-Yo just came around less then a year but he is doing his thang fasho. I'm not even worried about him, he know what he's doing. He's influenced by Prince & Mike. C'mon the boy has good taste. I am feelin' his music and his new songs. I love the ol' skool production with the handclaps. He should've let the beat ride like a 12' single. That would've been real HOT! This should definitely be a single. Keep bringin' a fresh sound to the game, ya dig.
I like Ne-Yo, but I honestly expected better than this! I like the beat and the music, which is super, his voice does its thing as always, but the song itself is average! It's in rotation coz it's Ne-Yo
AYO lol Ne-Yo killed dis @*#$! rite here! DAM!!! I definitely like dis over Love in Dis Club. srry ya'll Ne-yo (I believe) would definitely smash Usher if dey albums was to release da same tyme. Dam!! Dis is a classic im a big fan of "Closer" too. i luv Usher too (well ol skool usher) lol. But Ne-yo is fresh, young n talented (very).
i like dis n yes it does sound like a mj track....but ima have to disagree wit yall sayin neyo would smash usher if dey came out at da same time....i actually like neyo betta den usher...i like usher way bac on the "my way" album. but usher's last album went diamond n he took a break so dat jus makes his fan hunger for his music even more. neyo jus had an album last yr....yes i agree dat neyo is definitely an under rated artist but its jus da way it is....dats da music biz for ya....
Ne-yo delivers, but can't help but expect more from him. (especially with the michael jackson comparisons) glad his album is pushed back, more time to write a few more hits.
I knew what rating I was gonna give this song about a minute and a half in. I've been waiting for Ne-Yo to try to go in a more experimental direction. This song is definitely single material as it could be a big crossover hit. I do feel like its a little short and it's missing something tho. Either way, I think this is gonna be his best album yet!
Like da production,vocal,..everything...I think dis album he's about 2 trop is gonna be a classic R&B album...Ne-Yo showin people why he was the best R&B artist of last year!
gemini goddess16: I think the song is an absolute smash. If this record doesn't help Ne-Yo rise to the top of the charts, then the consuming public is out of their minds.
I agree with Z on this 1.. Its a smash.. I know for sure it will be on heavy rotation on the radio. Catchy beat, good lyrics, great production.... His songs have been on point..
I'm sorry but this is VERY weak. I agree wit one of the reviewers who said it sounds like some Micheal Jackson "fondeling little boys music". Okay I added the last part but you get the theme!!Ha!Ha!
One month later, it grew on me like crazy!!! I love the beginning, the percussion variations, the whole melody, and the sound on the background by the end when Ne-Yo goes repeating "more than more"... production is classy! This is better than Closer, which is a banger also. I sure hope Ne-Yo outdoes Usher, not cuz I don’t like Here I Stand, just cuz I want Ne-Yo’s songwriting and singing skills to be rightfully rewarded!
