Although Beautiful Monster was a number-one hit on the other side of the Atlantic (that’s the UK for the geographically challenged), Ne-Yo’s last two singles, the aforementioned Monster and Champagne Life, have for the most part failed to make an impact on the charts stateside. Undaunted, Mr. Yo is back at it again with his new single One Life, a lush, inspirational record I can already hear playing at proms across the country. For production duties the constantly-hatted crooner reaches out to r&b stalwarts Stargate, who craft a beat that won’t draw attention, and that’s just what they intended. Instead, it’s supposed to be Ne-Yo’s vocals that are firmly in the spotlight, and he delivers with an expertly crafted vocal performance that doesn’t have the same catchy factor as previous efforts, but has to be respected. Will One Life finally be the track that puts Ne-Yo back on top in the U.S.? That, DJBooth nation, is up to you. If not, don’t be surprised if his upcoming album Libra Scale gets pushed back from its current October 5, release date.

Ne-Yo is a supremely talented singer/songwriter. Both vocally and lyrically this song is executed with precision. With all that said (or typed), this song just doesn't excite me very much. Frankly, I am surprised that "Champagne Life" hasn't been able to hit more Stateside.

Disappointing to say the least. He's yet to drop that song that will verify all the comparisons to the late MJ. He is full of talent but needs to have more memorable songs.

First of all, lol this picture of Ne-Yo really makes him look gay...just saying. ANYways to the song! I'm a true R&B lover! So I do like this song, the writing is beautiful, and the production is nice. but its not better than Beautiful Monster and I dont see this on the radio. Just another album song.

@ x20nickel - He actually has dropped some songs of that level. Look up "Hurt Me" and "Laying Around". Their also gonna be on Libra Scale.
But yea this song is just another average Ne-Yo song. But even his average is pretty good. |

I don't see this getting too big, but who knows. All I know is I like it. Sure it's not as good as the last two singles and is more of a filler track, but it's still very good. I'm a really big fan of the production.

I thought this was OK for background music. I want the MJ style Ne-Yo back NOW!!! We need MJ songs that are sung by Ne-Yo... That's what we wanna hear!!! Go back to the MJ SONGS!

When jump on the scene and make such a huge splash as Ne-Yo did, it becomes increasingly difficult to live up to such a high mark. This is still a very nice song.

This is the best thing I've heard so far from Libra Scale. Ne-Yo is one of my favourite R&B singers, but everything I've heard this go around has been lacking something....I'm not sure what it is exactly, I guess the music just isn't as good as the good stuff on his previous albums!
This is pretty much Ne-Yo on cruise control. It's nothing spectacular, but is still serious competition for the other R&B tracks doing the rounds at the moment. Hopefully this will get him a release date and a feel good radio smash to cap off the season! 4 stars |

Ne Yo continues with his consistency yet again. he is not a fav of mine, but he always puts out music i enjoy. also, not my fav from him, but its quality nonetheless. im stuck between 3 and 4 here and i guess ill round...
