In spite of the success of his most recent single Closer, Ne-Yo decided to push back his junior album, Year of the Gentleman, because he needed more time to perfect it. That time was obviously put to good use, judging by the album’s second single, Miss Independent, an ode to all the ladies who handle all their business and don’t need anybody else. Once again, production team Stargate provides an upbeat tone, making Miss Independent appealing to a brand new audience, and allowing for Ne-Yo to continue his string of successful hits. More winning combinations should be expected once Year of the Gentleman is finally released September 16.

A real uplifting beat and catchy song here. I think Ne-Yo flows a lot better on tracks like this than he does on ones like closer. This songs gonna get a lota play from me
Pretty hot song. Glad he slowed it up a bit. Not on par with his other new material in my opinion, but this is a solid track for the ladies and I'll even bump it.
Man, Stargate is a beast with the production. Ne-Yo's album is about to be off the chains. I can't wait for the album release. I'm copping that. This is a real smooth joint from Ne-Yo, I must say. A hit. Everything I've heard from him in the past couple months have just been solid gold baby. No lie. This is no exception! Lyrics were on point and the presentation of the vocals were flawless. This cat is not playing. I also still stand by what I said a couple months ago about how he will sell more and have way more success than Usher's latest album. This is on a whole nutha echelon.

Ne-Yo just keeps pumping out hits this one is about to blow up. Soild production,lyrics & sangin on this one. Glad it wasn't him singing Destiny Childs version tho.
I never truly felt Closer, but this track is straight up hot. It's fresh and something that I wanted from Ne-Yo. This track is unique compared to his old stuff, and absolutely keeping things new. Definitely one of the best rnb tracks I've heard in a while. I really hope this is indicative of what things are gonna be like on his album.
The fact that Ne-Yo is involved in everything from recording to overall production of his tracks just sets him apart. When some artists get together with a producer, sometimes the beat and overall theme doesn't fit them well. He brings the heat on almost everything. Personally i liked Trouble a little better than Closer. I don't know why it didn't seem to blow up really. Ne-Yo and CB are going to be in the forefront of RnB for a while.
Another solid single, Stargate collab once again. Their production is similar to others but it works and Ne-Yo's singing works. Radio ready track that should blow up in the summer.

This isn't the typical r&b production, it's more fresh! Ne-Yo is great as always. I like this better than Closer, I wasn't crazy for that song (it became surprisingly famous also in Italy...only because Ne-Yo himself is famous)! Anyway after a while it gets a lil boring, it's good but not excellent
the uptempo yet calm beat goes perfect with his lyrics. push back the album if he needs to work on it, it's gonna be fire.ne yo has the most thought out lyrics. nice song also

When ever Ne-yo teams up with stargate there's always a hit created. I would love to see the next Ne-Yo album with alot of production from them. But either way ne-yo is sure to make some good music like this song.
Great Track, this next album is going to be mad crazy. What I really like about Ne-yo is the time he takes to perfect his songs that make you can't help, but like them. He really is one of the Best and Stargate knocked it out the park with the beat. 5 Stars!~(**)~
I feel like Ne-Yo writes better songs for other people than he does for himself. He can sing, no doubt, thats a given. But as for the song, Im not too crazy about it. It's ok. Sounds like every other Ne-Yo song.

It surprises me that Ne-yo can stay relevant for so long when he is always writing songs... I guess that makes sense I just though the quality of his music might fall off a little... Well it hasn't yet thankfully, Stargate switches it up a lil too with this one
This song is up there with "So Sick!" The beat is amazing and Ne-Yo strikes again with the top-notch songwriting. The song is so uplifting for women, and it doesn't feel played out like some other recent songs. Ne-Yo and StarGate always make an amazing team. I can't wait until this album comes out.
