Now maybe it’s just me, but with the sudden arrival of Frank Ocean‘s debut album and a new single from veteran crooner Ne-Yo the genre of R&B seems poised to have one of the best weeks in recent memory. Not to be overdone by boisterous newcomers Ne-Yo has released Let Me Love You, the second single from his upcoming album R.E.D. As crowded as the R&B/pop realm can be at times, the artist born Shaffer Chimere Smith has always managed to keep his head above water. And with songs that feature a tantalizing mix of silky vocals and club-ready production his longevity in the game should come as no surprise. Heavy on the keys, the production for Let Me Love You comes courtesy of Norwegian production duo (and frequent collaborators) Stargate. Basically, if you find yourself listening to Let Me Love You at your local club hot spit, then be prepared to have an Apple Martini (or equally Sex & The City-ish drink) spilled on your back by a pack of overly excited twenty-somethings. They’re going to absolutely love this one. Ne-Yo’s R.E.D. will be released via Compound Entertainment/Motown on September 18.

This sounds like something Usher or Chris Brown a) would do, or b) already turned down. Its catchy for sure, but this probably also marks the official end to Ne-Yo's more true R&B side.

sure this will be a hit, but seems like Ne-Yo has lost all of his freshness. I quote Z, I can't see any difference among Brown, Usher and him. All of them focuse much on dance music. Where's r&b gone?

I get that anything that makes people move is the trend, but when i think of Ne-Yo i think back to the smooth rnb tracks, bring that back, thats what is needed.

I love that Ne-Yo continues to push the envelope with his music and try new sounds, but I wish he would be a little bit more R&B than Pop.

Like DJ Z says this is Ne-Yo's gradual long route to the transformation of smooth, silky old skool R&B to the madness of R&B/Dance mix to which the longevity of his career is currently succeeding on.
But not sure his true fans like the new sound, but anyways I like this rhythmic beat and simplistic lyrics this is something I can definitely see myself uncontrollably nodding to. |
