As a child, I would run around the house with a tape deck and spontaneously break out into a dance session doing my best Michael Jackson impressions (come on, I know I wasn’t the only one). I could never resist the urge, especially when a song like Remember the Time came on. Now in my 20s, what happens when I listen to a song and get that exact feeling? Honestly? I still break out dancing, and that exactly what I did when I first listened to Ne-Yo’s new ode to the glamorous life, Champagne Life. Teaming back up with producer D. DoRohn Gough, Champagne Life has a mellow, free-flowing beat with hard-hitting drums and spacey strings sure to give anyone a feeling of euphoria. For his part, Ne-Yo hits us with soothing vocals at times reminiscent of a young Michael; displaying his range as he hits high notes and brings us back down like a roller coaster at Six Flags. So, now it’s up to you DJBooth. Does Champagne Life have you doing the Moonwalk? Ne-Yo’s upcoming album, Libra Scale, is set to drop in September.

Ne-Yo is going to follow in MJ's footsteps and that is how he is going to be remembered. He's still to make a track that will overtake the radio and be remembered decades later like Michael though. This is a fresh smooth song that where I can enjoy the artist's vocals and not get annoyed with auto-tune. He recently released his party song, so this is his mature song for the album.

I'm glad to hear Ne-Yo back. I was getting so tired of women go nuts for Trey and Chris, well trying to get back on top.
I like the laid back feel and Ne-Yo sounds good when he sings real smooth. I doubt this will be a hit but that's never a problem for Ne-Yo, he always finds a hit in his music. |

Ne-Yo's music is so reminiscent of MJ, it's not even funny. He is a lyrical mastermind, and he never ceases to deliver smooth cuts like this. I love it.

Between this one and his last song, this song is classic. It reminds me of MJ. I think Ne-Yo Got this. chorus, hook, and production. Stargate did a hell of a job on this.

So I'm thinking this is the equivalent to "Nobody" from his last album, which was a classic as well. I really hope this gets big. It seems like I could never get tired of it.

This song serves it's purpose, but doesn't leave much of an impression. Definitely has shades of MJ, but it is missing the emotional expression, messages, and stories in Jackson's music. Regardless, it sounds nice at the very least.

I liked "Beautiful Monster" for what it was (an obvious attempt to infiltrate the club scene ala David Guetta), but this song is much closer to the Ne-Yo we all know and love. This has radio smash written all over it.

I agree w/DJ Z, this is closer to the Ne-Yo we know and love, which may be a problem for me because it doesn't stand out as much as some of his previous hits. I know I'll spin it while I play the album, but more than that? I dunno.

I gotta agree with JayCL. I didn't like Beautiful Monstar, even knowing the crowd it was aimed for. This, however, is as classy and high quality a track as we've ever heard from Ne-Yo, plus a little swagger. I'll be surprised if this doesn't hit, it's got everything it needs to go big.

Amazing display of his vocal ability combined with that reminiscence of M.J.'s style everyone is raving about. Would anyone have said anything about the comparison if it wasn't mentioned in the review though?

u kno wats funny... a lot of songs on this site that get high acclaim and mentioned by several ppl on this site that the song "should be a huge hit" actually barely make the charts. not sayin anything bad bout anyone here, its jus wat i noticed.
anyway, i agree here. this indeed should be a major hit! down a** song. i also agree its way better than Beautiful Monster. 4.5 |

Ne-Yo is incredibly talented. Ne-Yo channels MJ in every song to me. I think its just the way he learned to write music, probably was listening to MJ since he was a kid just like we all did. He was just able to really take his style and make it his own. He does it with his knowledge of harmonies. All his harmonies are on point and he knows just how much to put in or take out. A good quality for a musician to have is to be able to know when too much is too much. It can be easy to clutter a song and turn a good song into an annoying one. Most times its better to keep it simple anyway when it comes to writing. Ne-Yo's lyrics are easy to get, and are very singable for the average listener. Ne-Yo's production is very well done.

Compared to his earlier hits, this is a bit of a step down, but not by much. Just that Ne-Yo is a much more superior artist than Trey Songz or Chris brown, so i hold him at a higher standard. This is still decent enough track for Ne-yo.

I love the beat to the this one it is so smooth! Ne-Yo always blends his voice perfectly on his own music. He is not the greatest featured artist. But when it comes to his albums. We may be listening to a legend in the making.

This and Beautiful Monster just aren't cutting it for me. Granted they are better than most R&B tracks out right now (nobody touches Usher atm) but for a reason I haven't yet figured out, I'm not feeling it. Maybe they don't sound as good in comparison to Ne-Yo's previous hits....whatever it is, Libra Scale is definitely among my most anticipated albums for this year.
