Decked out in a tux, bow tie, and maybe even a pair of white gloves, Ne-Yo was definitely prepared for 2008 (a.k.a. the “Year of the Gentleman”), and emerged in 2009 with platinum cuff links and a list of songwriting credits as long as DMX’s rap sheet. Two years later, he’s still Super High (well, at least Rick Ross is), and he’s prepared to unveil yet another mini-masterpiece with his new single Beautiful Monster. Producer Stargate had us all hopelessly addicted to Miss Independent when it dropped, and Monster seems to have the same drug-like potency once the bouncy, neo-funky production takes effect. Monsieur Ne-Yo, who refuses to let chivalry die, simply can’t bring himself to call the object of his affection a “monster” and therefore tacks on the “beautiful” and adds in a couple of “I don’t minds” to show that he doesn’t mind a good-looking woman with a little attitude. So which will it be Booth nation? Is this track beautiful, or a monster? Ne-Yo’s forthcoming album Libra Scale, which Beautiful Monster can be found on, is slated for a Fall release.

If I could use only one word to describe Ne-Yo it would be CONSISTENT. In a genre (R&B) where 99% of the field falls by the wayside after one album release, Ne-Yo continues to evolve as an artist, showing us that he can easily knock out hit after hit after hit.
Though I prefer his more traditional R&B/Pop workings, I can't be mad at this David Guetta-influence club record. Its a winner.

I'm definitely feeling this one. Everything works. I really like the beat and everything going on in the background. It holds my interest. I wish he would have done a little bit more with the vocals. All in all, this is a banger. Good production and solid work on the hook.
Does anyone else think he is saying "beautiful" in a sort of odd way? |

Dude has to be the best dressed RnB artist by far. It's a club winner no doubt and consistency is the key word here. Year after year he won't go away and produce an album not worth buying. Keep up the singing and the writing dude you've gone so far since 'so sick'.

Damn, it's been quite awhile since I have heard some quality Ne-Yo. His "In My Own Words" is still one of my favorite R&B albums of all time, so coming into this and seeing who it is who produced the track, my expectations were pretty high.
I agree with Z, Ne-Yo is a very consistent artist and with that said and done, what isn't to like about this track. Production from Stargate, is hyped up and ready for the dance floor. Ne-Yo's vocals are on point and the hook goes hard. All together, I'm not disappointed. 3.5 |

This just blew my mind. There is something different about his voice on this one that I just can't put my ear on. I really hope this gets big, but I'm not sure if it will or not. I felt exactly the same way I did about "Miss Independent" as I do about this song so in time this will be a classic for me.

I like this, its very clubby, Ne-Yo brings the heat with his voice and pen game...its just this simply isnt as good as Ne-Yo's other hits..
I dont think the beat is hitting hard enough...also the melody isnt really that intriguing...although it is better than 90% of the other R&B tracks doing the rounds at the moment....looking forward to the album. 3.5 stars (round up to 4 cuz Ne-Yo is a beast!) |

I'm going to have to go against the grain and say I wasn't really feeling this. The pop-club beat sounds really shallow to me, and speaking of shallow, the way he pronounces "beautiful" for some reason aggravates me. I'm a huge Ne-Yo fan, and I still believe he's the closest we have to a new MJ musically speaking, but this one misses the mark for me.

This track is a lot like his hit "closer".
This track has got more of a European club feel rather than Ne-Yo's typical sexy smooth R&B sound. This track sounds like a record which could be big overseas. Also doesn't think a little that this is a sort of track the king of po MJ would sing because thats one of the first things that I noticed because Ne-Yo has that MJ feel about him. Ne-Yo continues to show the world how impressive he is, I mean he can just about sing every type of genre of music. If he carries on doing tracks like this he will have hit after hit after HIT. Once again Stargate have done a wonderful job with Ne-Yo just like they did to produce "Because Of You" and "So Sick". |

Its a let down. To be roughly honest, I don’t believe in the track’s potential. Neyo's vocals are clearly outta his zone and verses are a major bore. There is no sparkle in the song writing plus they are far too repetitive. Production is livelier and shows promise but never really takes off. The real trouble being that it is probably too commercial for Ne-Yo fans and insufficiently glossy/catchy to appeal to the mainstream.
In an industry where auto-tune and dance beats currently reign supreme, it’s easy to craft a dance song that sounds just like the one that played before it. But weak mutants don't last too long. I hope he doesn’t put anything like this on his next album which is expected to be released this year. He needs to do better than this. |

Like they have all posted earlier this is made for clubs, I personally like his genuine singing when it sounds like he means it and you can feel his emotions but still anything Ne-Yo makes will be a hit and make anyone want to get up and dance.

i'm sorry to say that i have disliked Ne-yo from 'Miss independant' he bought it back with 'baby by me' with 50 cent but i still really do not like his vocals and his beats. And so i got this song,'beatiful monster' of i-tunes, listened to the the first 1.5 minutes, hated it and deleted it.

Better club song than "Closer", but not as much pop appeal. Stargate surely knows how to churn out dancefloor bangers.
Ne-Yo's vocals are non-autotuned, so big up to that. It's slowly climbing up the Billboard 100, but I don't see why it hasn't cracked Dance Club/Dance Airplay. And yeah, he sounds like he's saying "Beau-deee-ful monster" |
