Nation Ruckus
Boombox Manifesto

“Bad” may mean “good” in rap, but few artists have what it takes to make “stupid” sound smart. (The only candidate that springs to mind at the moment is Booth fave Yonas, who brought us Stupid Brilliance back in 2010.) With new video single Stupid in Yo Area, however, Nation Ruckus have achieved just that, melding dumb fun with serious skills and social commentary. The Montreal four-piece’s first featured record since last July, when they introduced themselves with the reader-acclaimed Funky Sneakers, the record finds crew members Quality and DJ WiM flipping a sample from the BeastiesThree MCs and a DJ as Milk E Fresh takes note of the social injustices surrounding him (“I see so many victims of oppression, teachers don’t wanna listen and neither do politicians.”), and resolves to use his mic skills to advocate for members of his generation who lack a voice. Complete with visuals by Ganael Dumontier, this thoughtful yet party-ready jam is one of many bangers to be found on Boombox Manifesto, scheduled for release tomorrow, September 25.
