After months of posturing, from both Nas and his label executive boss, L.A. Reid, the rapper’s forthcoming ninth studio album will no longer be titled “N*gger.” Despite the decision to drop the controversial title from the much-talked-about impending album, Nas will not be changing the messages he plans to deliver to his audience through the LP’s no-holds-barred track list. Following last month’s release of Be A N*gger Too, Nasty Nas has leaked a second song off the project, entitled N.*.G.G.E.R. (The Slave and the Master). Poetic as always, the veteran Queensbridge rapper speaks to an African American audience and reminds his people of the hard times they been through and what they need to do in order make sure the future is bright. Don’t judge a book by its cover; the same goes for Nas.
It's NAS! I am kinda deflated bout the name change of the album! This song is fire lyrically. The beat is good, nothin spectacular. Still though, It;s Nas! 5 stars
Woah...woah...hold up, Nas just said what?!?! After the hard-hitting "Be A N!gger Too" was leaked, I totally expected this record to sound 10x as hard. I'm proud to say that Nas fools us once again and goes with the orchestrated production complimenting a straightforward, low-key hook. He masterly tackles dense subjects is a way that is revolutionary and politically moving. Yet, his tone lays a calm overall mood that is pure and undiluted. One part of me is disappointed that Nas decided to change his album title, while another part of me simply yearns for more controversy. Today's state of hip-hop needs unnecessary attention. Hip-hop needs to be revolutionary again. Hip-hop needs to reclaim that edge that no other genre of music can successfully deliver. Hip-hop needs Nas!!!!!
MAN I WAS NEVER A NAS FAN AND STILL NOT ONE LYRICALLY HE IS ON POINT BUT HIS DELIVERY ON MOST OF HIS TRACKS IS BORING, THIS TRACK IS AIGHT BEAT IS BORING BUT LYRICALLY HE IS STRONG
Why do I get the feeling that this album is going to be a lyrically conscious LP. I don't mind it, but he better have a few nasty beats while he delivers messages about the state of hip-hop and the socioeconomic status of African-Americans post-MLK era. This is an album filler but a solid one. I agree with Lady Ruiz, he probably will come out with an autobiography.
yeah this song is not a hit but is very socially conscious like ppl already said, nas lyrics make u think and that y i always love him, i find that simple minded ppl dont like him cause they cant think and digg in to the true meaning of his songs.....the song is good but the hook kinda of pushing the song back cuz it so simple, its in rotation
can someone pls give this guy a good beat JR Rotem, Polow Da Don, Timbs... somebody pls help this nigga out! He spit fire but nobody listening cuz his hooks not catchy. This shit just follow this nigga to every label he goes to and I just dont get it. its crazy cus I'm a big fan of his. DAMN
Didn't really know where Nas was goin with "Be A N*gg*r". But the message is clear with this joint. This is what we need to hear more of in hip hop, instead of the 90 percent of the stuff comin out praising the all mighty dollar and 24 inch spinners. I like this one.
come on now I know Nas is a OG but this title is frickin ridiculous mang!!!!! Bring that real educational idea Nas I was down with you on 1 love wut happened very dissapointed comin from a black mans perspective
im have to make a change, ill was very tired when listening to this song, nas has a way of spitting that knowledge that everyone can relate too, it not boring is great.........dare i say that his new album will be better than illimatic(hard as that is to imagine) i give this a new rating of 4.5
actually nas said the name of the album will not be self titled, but it untitled right now dont u read the credits............dont we have freedom of speech and press, only reason he getting so much static is because of the media, regardlessly the name it going to do huge numbers
Wow! The message here is deeeep. Are we ready for this? This generation is not used to hearing stuff like this but it's a good thing IMO. I'm still skeptical about the whole N-word but atleast the context of it is being used differently. Now I wish he had kept that original album title just because I feel it wasn't right for his label to take away his freedom of speech.
the song is mad deep...
gotta always look to nas as being one of the few in the mainstream industry to deliver the much needed knowledge to the people.
I normally listen more to music than to lyrics...especially when I don't understand them. To me this isn't a song, it's a man who talks with a music in the background! I'm sorry I can't appreciate this, I wanna hear rhythm, a catchy beat, not a man talking. I give 2 stars coz I normally like Nas and I know he makes efforts to make create lyrics...
the title was changed because def jam was going to drop him and walmart would refused to carry the album... only got my vote purley on the profound lyricist him self nothing else
PattyPatty85 WTF are you saying. Are you saying you only listen to songs that rhyme and have a catchy beat, and the lyrics don't need to make sense. Probably that is what you think since you gave Lil faggot (wayne) 5 stars and you gave Nas a legend who is way better than that faggot 2 stars. Do you know anything about hip hop.
shut up bizz do we have to go over this everytime Patty is not from here and she doesnt understand all the words, so she is saying she doesnt understand everything rappers say, so she listen to beats, cant u read stupid..........too bad u dont understand Patty because your missing out on a great song lol
Now the song has a meaning but he get off track alot and be sayin stupid stuff now if Kanye would have put a theme like this to a song then it would be ridin but some of it is true like the how " history doesnt aknowledge us " but " we are the slave and the master" makes me kinda PO cuz its not true but I sy kinda cuz its has a meanig to if you look at it a cetain way
so yeah some black guy comes out with an album with a controversial title, spits about 400 years of slavery and segregation = profit? get over it, the slavery is over, stop living in the past, the tables have turn african americans and Haitians and jamaicans and all the other black majorities, theyre living it up today. the world revolves around you guys, the fashion industry (look up gucci shoes, definitely aimed at the black market.), the vehicle industry(Hummers and the new escalades anyone? Never seen this much chrome on car in my life.), the music industry ( look up the percentage of whites listen to rap music, you will be amazed.) Stop living in the past, the present is a good life. You keep suppressing yourselves, you keep on believing you are the minority, but in reality, if you consult your local state census, (if they include what ethnic background the surveyed are) you will see who the real minority is.
i think it's bullshit! The use of the 'n' word has gotten completely out of hand and all the work that the civil rights leaders is being slowly undone. Great dumbasses!
All I can say is thank you boss dogg! I think I'll stop commenting on here, one can't have his own opinion...I said Nas is a great lyricist (for what I understand) but not my type! I didn't say it's shit, ok? Leave me alone. I see other people who give 1/2 stars to songs u consider classics, but u don't jump on them! Do u hate people who's not American, maybe? I'm starting to think so. You are intolerant
Patty Patty just shut up. Dont comment on something you cant understand cause all your doin is just sayin nonsense. Nas is the greatest. He spits truth and delivers his message in such a meaningful way. Patty Patty i dont expect you to understand what he is sayin because first off you cant relate (your not black and you probly never lived in the hood). I get offended when people with little sense think they have a right to talk about something they know nothing about.
Back to the song:
Classic!
LR rooke see even if I can't understand certain things, I'm not offensive like you. So the person with little sense between me and you it's you! U don't tell me shut up, I've never told this to anyone and never will, coz I'm a polite person, not like you as I can notice! Well explain me why you hate me...for example beautiful liar wrote this song is bullshit (and she/he used a strong word to define it, I never said something so)why don't u jump on her/him? Leave me alone, if Nas is the greatest well for you (I said he's a great lyricist, can you read or what?! It's only that I like him more when he does songs like "I can", with excellent lyrics and a GOOD music...) I am free to express what I want. Otherwise change site, if u can't accept other opinions.
THIS JOINT WAS THE S****8 I THINK THAT HE IS SOOOO SEXY THAT'S MY BABY WHEN EVERYBODY WAS LIKE OH HE WACK BUT LOOK AT YALL NOW U WANNNA HAVE ALLLLLL HIS SONGZ
Yo I've heard five joints off this album and all great unless, its 20 songs on this lp .I know from experience there gotta be some misses on this album. I still cop it his message is that poignant.Wake up!!!!!!!!!!
