As We Enter, the lead single off Nas & Damian Marley‘s long-awaited collaborative album, received overwhelmingly positive reader reviews when it hit our front page in late January, but a few remarked that another track off the project would have made an even better first impression. Previously leaked sans Nas’ closing bars but presented here in its finished form, album inclusion (but not a potential single) Strong Will Continue is an anthemic cut that simmers with slow-burning determination. Marley brings a reggae flavor to his verse and hook, but goes for a trendy fusion of rap and arena-rock on the production tip, blending street-ready piano loops and synth-strings with reverb-drenched electric-guitar riffs as Nas spits his own intricate brand of motivational lyricism, interweaving religious allusions with reflections on both the rewards and the unintended consequences of his lucrative hustle. Does Strong Will Continue have the edge over As We Enter? We report, you decide. Fans can find both records, and much more, on the East Coast icon and reggae heavyweight’s Distant Relatives LP, which has yet to receive a solid release date from the label brass.

This song first appeared on the Top Hip Hop / R&B Chart on March 1, 2010

NAS IS BACK, This beat is epic, both artists put there hearts on this track. Love how the beat changes up and the tempo fluctuates, I might have this a classic rating, here goes nothing....

"...reverb-drenched electric-guitar riffs as Nas spits his own intricate brand of motivational lyricism, interweaving religious allusions with reflections on both the rewards and the unintended consequences of his lucrative hustle" - HUH? I felt like I was reading a College History textbook or some sh1t like that. Impressive vocab!!

as for the song, I prefer this over As We Enter, good verses, good hook, solid production, 4.5, D Marleys hook is powerful

Easily the best song to come off the album so far. The first version that leaked didn't have the closing verse from Nas, and the track's definitely better with it. This is the cut that really makes me excited about the project.

I've been waiting for more Nas Marley since RTB. I love how every song off this project is different, but great in its own way. Post-Kelis Nas is like a renewed man.

[Nas]
All I do is stay focused
looking straight forward at the world and beyond
I feel people pulling me down
I feel some pulling me up
I can't get stuck
I just keep moving forward
I got places to go man
Let's go!

[Damian Marley]
When the armageddon's dark and dread
a lot of weak hearted weep and moan
only the strong will continue
Do you have it in you?
Come, we've got a journey to go
and when the battle get sour and dread
a lot of weak hearted wither and moan
only the strong will continue
I know you have it in you
I know you have it in you

[Nas]
As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death
New York to Cali, for the money, power, respect
It's a journey, some will get left behind
cause in life, you cannot press rewind
get it right, you only have one first chance
to make one first impression that lasts a lifetime
Reputation supercedes itself
Do you believe in Hell?
Babylon greed for wealth
Do you deceive yourself and let your ego swell?
And disregard those who most need your help
thick skin, the dark won't take my soul
survive spiritual wars, see my welts
and the evil's felt, but the faith is stronger
I saw grown men fall when I was a youngster
but I clench my fists, ready to go against whoever
tie my Timbs and rise in the end

[Damian Marley (Nas)]
When the armageddon's dark and dread
(I get up and make it happen)
A lot of weak hearted weep and moan
(I get up and we get it cracking)
Only the strong will continue
Do you have it in you?
Come, we've got a journey to go
And when the battle get sour and tread
(I get up and I get it going)
A lot of weak hearted wither and moan
(We get up and we keep it flowing)
Only the strong will continue (yeah)
I know you have it in you (yeah, yeah)
I know you have it in you

[Damian Marley]
No man live forever, but never say never
every good he want better, must be a go getter
and always be clever in every endeavor
now drastic time call for drastic measure
your girl try to pleasure from your neighbors, things sever
the land and the treasure, work for whatever
Jah said don't be a beggar, the Alpha Omega
will bless every soul no matter which name you prefer
The immortal stepper, believe in every skin no matter which color they are
We never let we don't know here which kind of weather
you're destined to rise like the Son of Rebecca
don't stop for a second
everyone reckon, it sure would be good to be there
whether Zion or Mecca
when the gates are finally closed
and the saints go marching in

[Damian Marley (Nas)]
When the armageddon's dark and dread
(I get up and make it happen)
A lot of weak hearted weep and moan
(We get up and we keep it flowing)
Only the strong will continue (only the strong will continue)
I know you have it in you
I know you have it in you

[Nas]
Imma street lifer, always harassed by the C-Ciphers
chief-like, Geronimo with his peace pipe
I emerged from the street life
this for the homies who relate, know what it be like
my QB life
taken and turned to the Louie XIII light
twisted and mangled sorta like Bruce Lee life
cursed with his son Brandon, if that’s you and me Knight
I pray our fate’s greater
I speak like I still matter as a rapper, not doubting
even Toni Braxton signed a deal with Craig Kallman
how in, the hell am I supposed to stay comfy?
when I pay child support, alimony, monthly?
got Maserati’s and Ferrari’s
only like a woman whose a rider, but only h0es want me
single life crazy
n!ggas wives on me
I say stay faithful, they say their man corny
so I’m stuck with some married woman, so fine
cheating while their husband rushing on the 40 yard line
wonder if, this is what my ex did the whole time
good n!ggas seem to always end up with some hard times, hope not
If a pimp slippin’ in a h0e plot, ain’t nothing to it G
in a two-tone drop, kid
And it don’t stop, see a n!gga disappearing with the baddest honey’s in the whole spot
Yeah!

Mr. Top Hat great job with the lyrics! The only line I question is "When the armageddon's dark and dread" a lot of lyrics sites are reporting it as such but being of Jamaican lineage I'm not hearing it.

As for the song itself I'm without adjectives to describe the feelings this song arouses. This is a single; but "As We Enter" is still fire.
