Nas - Election Night
Artist: Nas
Producer: DJ Green Lantern
Album: Unreleased
Label: Ill Will/Def Jam
Before the polls even opened in California, Nas was hard at work on a brand new record. Beginning where he left off on Black President, the Queensbridge emcee wrote and recorded Election Night, an inspirational tribute to the impact many feel that Barack Obama will have on America. Over a brand new production from DJ Green Lantern, which does contain some bassline elements from the aforementioned Black President, Nas mourns the loss of Obama’s grandmother (who passed away on Monday), and admits that he has never before taken the time to vote in an election. This evening, as millions of Americans gather around their television sets to watch Election Night coverage, a President Elect will be named. The question remains: will change follow?

Obama! Obama! God shed his grace on thee, and crown thy good with Brothahood from sea to shining sea. Now that I've gotten that outta the way. This song is what I expect from the best rapper alive. Nas did a better job with this beat than those who used it before. I hope ya'll voted, I did.

Not as good as Black President, but it is sorta like a continuation of that song. Get lyrics though, and I think that we all know that President Obama...

I actually think this is BETTER than "Black President", because it breaks out of the "my president is black" stuff, and goes beyond that, with better and more powerful lyrics.

Its very sad this is most of your first time voting and its strictly a race thing. Don't argue it because its true. If you didn't care to vote your entire lives until a black guy was in the running you obviously voted with skin on the mind. I bet you NONE of you even listened to McCains campaign, just ran to polls thinking "ya boy a black dude gonna run this shit".. Me as a white man voted for Obama for what he COULD bring not what his color is. Shame on those who were skin deep.

Sick lyrics. When I saw "Obama Elected President of the United States of America" on TV last night I got goose bumps and realized I just witnessed one of the most important historical moments in my life along with 9/11. Absolutely amazing. It's just mind blowing that blacks have come so far, when just a few years back nobody would have been able to conceive the idea that we could have a black president and I'm happy the U.S. has gotten to this point.

hey philly i would lyke to address wat u said mayne. i feel wat u are comin from but u lookin at it from one side mayne. Tru maybe people did vote because he's black but guess wat, some white people voted for McCain jus because he was goin against a black mayne. Also is wasnt because he was only black he had one word dat basically won him the election "CHANGE". Its jus sad dat we as the people have finaly taken notice of our economic state and wats goin on in politcs because a black mayne jus so happened to run. But Barack is not only a black mayne he is now a symbol of change, that since a black mayne has won and has been accepted by the people in such a position of power maybe we as a united front and get over this whole color Bullshit and face da prolm in front of us. But sadly it aint gonna happen like dat cuz people r ignant. Color is all wat some people r jus gonna see.

Well, I'd like to say this phillyzphinest, I UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY. That's why I voted too. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME VOTING BECAUSE I AM ONLY 19 and couldn't vote the last presidential election. But I've been contemplating the whole idea---EVEN THOUGH WE VOTED FOR BARACK BECAUSE HE'S THE MAN FOR THE JOB, I DON'T THINK THAT MEANS WE STILL CAN'T BE PROUD THAT HE'S ALSO A BLACK MAN AND THE FIRST BLACK PERSON TO BE PRESIDENT. I never just looked at his skin color when I made my decision...but now that he has one, I feel it's wrong for anyone to tell me as a black man that I can't be PROUD that a black man has become president. I mean, c'mon now. Stop making things all big and just bask in the joy of a change for America...all cultures can be involved in this celebration cuz he's hear for us all. And that's just my two cents....wait no....that's just my CHANGE and then some!

Obama won...are you happy? I am, here most of the people support Obama, and not only in Italy. Let's hope he'll do great! Well, the production of this song reminds me of Toy Soldier by Eminem...the overall song is good, good music and good lyrics but I have to look for them of course!

Biggups MH for addressing philly in a similar fashion as I would have. It was my first time voting as well being 19 (20 in 8 days). Obama is not where he is because of his skin color if anything it was something that could've kept him back. Just take a look at the South in an Election map. With the exception of Florida there is still a lot of racial unrest and tension. Happily in Virginia And Florida Obama was able to overcome that but I can almost guarantee that half the other southern states didn't vote the way of McCain for just his policies. I voted because our education and health systems both are in desperate need of reform (if you disagree with education then you must not be paying your own way through College). Ish is crazy but I do hope that Obama surrounds himself with the right people in order to truly make a difference. Loved Nas and it was a good choice of production to spit over.

Look I sure as hell didn't intend to start a race or political debate but facts are facts no matter how badly some of us (myself)and possibly some of you want skin color to go away, it will not. There is prejudice in just about everyone and it sucks. Though race was a factor in peoples voting, the racism was obviously outweighed by hope of change because more than enough people in ALL of OUR ethnic groups sided with who I THINK and HOPE will bring change. As for being black and being happy he was elected. I COMPLETELY understand why you would be proud, its been a long journey and shows in wavelengths how far you've come from history. I probably more than other "white" people understand the story because my ancestors are from Sicily. I guess my point is I really don't care about the color I just wish there was another black man involved so I KNEW people would look through skin to get the right man.

Amen to that michaelhannah & -Dre. As a Virginia resident who attends college in North Carolina, I can't stress enough the significance of Obama's results in those states. Also I, as well as many others have remained completely informed of all Obama's policies from day one, but the fact that he is an African American makes it SO much more special. Who would have thought that the first election I was able to take part in would feature a black candidate? I certainly didnt. So before you misinterpret this as voting because of only skin color, please keep in mind what a monumental time this is. Should we not be able to enjoy this day, that my generation and countless others have been waiting on for so long? That being said great track! And now I'm off to the LUPE CONCERT!!!!!!!
