As anyone lucky enough to hit up this past summer’s Rock the Bells tour knows, legendary emcee Nas and reggae progeny Damian Marley have teamed up for a collabo album, and today we’re being treated to their first official single As We Enter (an apt title considering the circumstances). Produced by Marley himself, As We Enter bounds across your speakers with a retro-meets-dancehall beat that Nas and Damian use to spit their respective flows, teaming up for lines like “I got the guns / and I got the ganga / so we can blaze it up on your block if ya wanna.” Well then, looks like the two are a match made in hip-hop heaven. I can’t put my finger on it exactly, but for some reason the chorus feels flat. Other than that, I don’t know how you could listen to As We Enter and not feel hyped for their new album Distant Relatives, which is tentatively due out April 20; and by ‘tentative” I mean you shouldn’t be surprised if April rolls around with nary a Distant Relatives to be found.

When I heard a snippet for this record this past summer I was psyched for the project. Then I saw the two perform at the Rock The Bells opener in Chicago and I got a little bit more excited. Then I waited six months to get an official single from and (honestly) I lost the excitement. Thankfully, "As We Enter" has very much renewed my excitement for this project (as a whole). I just pray we don't end up waiting another 6-8 for the release.

F*ck!! After "Road to Zion" I was hoping for another classic banger from these 2, but I was kinda disappointed. As Nathan alluded to, the chorus was flat, and the track just never went anywhere. Until Zion returns...

I agree with 1_O-TYME_1 on this one. Strong Will Continue was a nice track. This was just decent. The verses were strong but the chorus on this could use a lot of tweaking.

I'm on the fence about this one; not sure if I like the beat, but Nas' flow makes up for it. Maybe the album will have some other immediately-gripping offerings.

Sorta like Z here. I've been hyped for this project ever since I heard of it, influenced by this very snippet. But then this project sinked into Neverland, but when this and "Strong Will Continue" came out, my hope was renewed. This song isn't for everyone, but I'm not everyone. Let's get this on the shelves before the end of the year...

one thing to add: how is Jay-Z considered the best rapper alive when he puts out verses like the ones on his feature tonight, and Nas puts out ones like these???

The more I listen to this, the more I like it. The production and hook and lyrics are outstanding, and have me pumped for this.

Yeah, I agree with mostly everyone too.

After hearing Road to Zion and Strong Will Continue, I thought these two were a match made an heaven but this feels a little forced. Maybe they just wanted to have some upbeat songs but this isn't the right one here.

A bit disappointed after listening to "Only the strong will continue". There's quality, but I don't really love how it was put together (specially the rhythm).

I like Damian Marley and Nas when they both get together for tracks. They speak that real stuff that people don't usually talk about. Too bad I like their other tracks a bit better, but this can still go into rotation.

Looks like I have a different take than the rest of the Booth. Strong Will Continue sounded a little off to me (their style's just didn't flow well together) but, aside for the chorus, I'm digging this one more. Either way I'm stoked for the release of Distant Relatives.

I liked the upbeat vibe of this track. Both flowed on it real well and I didn't have a problem with the hook at all. This was pretty tight but I think these two easily have the potential to make a classic record. 3.5 for this.

To my ears, these two styles don't mix very well on this track, I expected much more comming from Nas.

This is dope, Nas and Damian are extremely original together. Plus we have never really had a rapper/reggae duo of this magnitude. I do expect more substance from these two artists, but I love the fact that they still know how to make enjoyable music and switch up their styles. Can't wait to hear more from these two.

This is more upbeat to what I'm used to when I listen to Nas songs, so I admire the versatility.

Damian Marley's beat is insane. Glad he let it play out after they were done flowing. I'll go ahead and give this a four even though I'm kinda leaning towards a three right now. I'm almost sure that this will grow on me eventually. Love that Road To Zion track they did awhile back though. That was a classic joint.

While I don't feel the production, I do appreciate anything uptempo to get Nas to reveal his crazy smooth flow.
