Nas - Bye Baby
Artist: Nas
Producer: Salaam Remi & Noah "40" Shebib
Album: Life is Good
Label: Ill Will/Def Jam
Since Nas is on record saying that his Life is Good album, and certainly the cover, is directly inspired by his acrimonious divorce with Kelis, we can just go ahead and assume that Bye Baby and its music video is pretty damn close to autobiographical, if not completely autobiographical. Super producer Salaam Remi and Drake’s resident boardsmitih Noah “40” Shebib join forces to create a lightly paced, heavily R&B influenced beat that sounds straight out of 1998 on the chorus. On the mic Nas once again displays his extraordinary storytelling skills, delving deep into the details of how a marriage between a woman Kelis and a man
can go from storybook romance to bitter fights to some sort of resolution: “Bye baby I guess you know why I had to leave / seven months into your pregnancy, about to have my seed.” As if hip-hop nation needed any more incentive to purchase Nas’ Life is Good album, out now.

Youtube Lil Neek/Spend the Night. This sounds like something Nas or Jigga woulda been on back in the day.

I like this track. It's a bit personal, but I love the production by Remi and 40 and Nas has some of sickest skills with a pen and a pad...

Nas can only make two kinds of songs - good songs and classics. This isn't a classic, though, so it has to be placed in the "good" category. "Daughters" is still the best I've heard from this new Nas' album and maybe the best we've heard in years...

Sorry Nasir, too much '98 sound for me. Verses are sick, though.

One of the best songs on the album in my opinion. Classic, the beat was crazy. Really feeling the 90's R&B vibe on the chorus. Of course, Nas' lyrics and story was the most intriguing part of the track.

Good video for a great song. Nas poured some of his heart out with this one. One of my favorite albums this year for sure.

I respect this tracks because of its honesty on his failed relationship with Kelis and I have found a new admiration for Nas as a songwriter. The Guy sample is killer Saleem Remi and 40 thank you!
