Nappy Roots - Nappy Holidays
Artist: Nappy Roots
Producer: Je'kob Washington
Album: None (Promo Single)
Label: Nappy Roots Ent Group
I’ve got a confession to make, Booth readers: this year, for what I’m pretty sure is the first time, Christmas carols don’t make me want to deafen myself with knitting needles. Whether it’s the musical equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome or just me getting old, though, my sudden lack of hatred for Bing Crosby’s White Christmas doesn’t change the fact that seasonal tunes could be so much fresher; here to offer me a timely reminder are the Nappy Roots with new promo single Nappy Holidays. Over the understated production of Je’kob Washington, complete with jingle bells and pa-rum-pum-pum-pumming snares, the quintet deliver a message of gratitude and familial togetherness that should ring true to listeners of all religions and walks of life: “Really I’m just happy ‘cause I got to see another year… some of these faces I ain’t seen in so long, but as long as I’m alive you will always have a home.” Rachael Washington adds the proverbial bow on top, lending her smooth vocal stylings to the chorus. We received this record a few weeks back, but we were not yet in the holiday spirit (too much going on to focus on the end of December). However, with the holidays right in front of us, we decided that its time for some "Nappy Holidays." If you've listened to these fellas for the last 8 years or so, you already know what you're getting. Same deal here, expect holiday-themed.

Classic Nappy Roots here. The guitar works well, with the drumline-style rhythm. Rachael Washington is a new name to me but she sounds great on the hook. The song accompishes its goal as a holiday song. So ill rate it as what it is.

I really like the feel the song protrays to its audience. Its about christmas, but its a lil sad... with some happiness towards the end... I think Nappy Roots has a great record right here. I like just about everything about this song. The production from Je'Kob Washington is fantastic. This is an overall good song. In rotation for me.

I like the production, and this makes me think of Christmas carols. Gonna be singin this, so much for "Jingle Bells."

This is the problem with holiday tracks, they have limited rotation.
