It has indeed been “a long time comin’” for California underground heavyweight MURS. On Tuesday, the emcee will release his seventh solo studio album, MURS For President, which features fellow geek-to-chic rapper/producer, will.i.am, on the bouncy track, Lookin’ Fly. Over the Black Eyed Peas alum’s Green Hornet-sampled opus, the Living Legends collective member maintains his underground sound despite releasing his new project via Warner Bros. (his first with a major label). Though the thrift store champion might lose points by running the “fly” mantra into the ground, his upbeat sound may be exactly what listeners are looking for in a candidate. In a crucial political year, DJBooth endorses MURS as a possible candidate for hip-hop Head of State.

This beat is hot. It's real different! I'm glad he doesn't sound more "west coast". He actually sounds more west coast, that's why he rolled with the Rhymesayers. I do have to say this though...this is the most commercial sounding song I've heard from Murs ever (not including "Dreadlocks"). It's straight, but not the normal for Murs and it's the vocals on this version is not mixed very well either. I'll throw it in rotation for now. I know Murs can come better than this. He has dropped classics.

That's a really sick beat!!! I wish I find a instrumental. But 2 things blew me off - 1) I don't dig his hair - at all. 2) There ain't much special bout the lyrics. So 3/5.

Not a bad song but it didn't impress me. I wouldn't listen to it again! The best part of it is the beat, it's really banging! But the rest is kinda boring...MURS voice is so and so, flow is ok. The pseudo-chorus "I'm looking fly" is annoying. OK

If you are a longtime MURS fan, forget what the man has put out to this point. He has decided to release an album on a major and there is/was no reason to think that the move wouldn't change the sound and style (slightly) of his material. This collabo w/ will.i.am is a prime example of what could happen when talented cats hook up. This is hot.

I love the Beat/production on this... (I hope look'n Fly doesn't mean rock'n dreads like that) I was expect'n the hook to be a little more catchy... They should of put someone else on it or at least keep MURS away from it and put a little more Will.i.am in it! Maybe this would grow on me.. but I still do LOVE THE PRODUCTIOn.. I think a REMIX is needed here!

NOO MURS! goo back to your old music! i dont know what he was thinking about making this move. yes, the beat is very catchy, but lyrically wise, Murs was way better when he was with 9th wonder.
i dont wana see another good artist such as Murs turn into one of those terrible maint stream artists who only feed on good beats. |
