Nostalgic for the late-‘80s/early-90’s heyday of Cold Chillin’, the label who brought us Marley Marl, Masta Ace and countless other Golden Age Greats? So are Mulatto Patriot and Simeon Viltz. On the inaugural song release off their first project as Ray Elementary, the Chi-town beatsmith and emcee take us back to that halcyon era. Once Again is more than a simple throwback, however. Patriot incorporates live-band elements (including percussion by drummer Chris Paquette) into his jazzy, retro-inspired instrumental, and Viltz takes an equally eclectic approach on the mic, mixing upbeat motivational bars with tightly-wound wordplay.
