Muggsy Malone - Be Alright
Artist: Muggsy Malone
Producer: Timeless Beats
Album: TPK (Two Legs And Ten Toes) Mixtape
Label: Unsigned
Having traveled the world as a military serviceman and endured a period of homelessness, DMV up-and-comer Muggsy Malone has seen more hardship than some could imagine, and, understandably, he’s emerged from these life experiences with a profound appreciation for things most take for granted—as evidenced by the title of his forthcoming street album, the Booth newcomer is happy to have survived with his Two Legs and Ten Toes intact. On his first Booth feature (a mixtape inclusion originally released to the ‘net in late ‘08), The Parkway Kid expands upon the positive-minded philosophy that’s sustained him through the toughest of times. Flowing over Timeless Beats’ Chipmunk-soul instrumental (sampled from Johnny Gill’s There You Go), the rapper reassures a special someone that, as long as he’s alive and able to express himself through music, he’ll Be Alright. The deceptively dense blend of braggadocio, wordplay, and autobiographical detail Malone brings to this cut requires repeat listens to fully appreciate, but the undeniably catchy presentation is sure to keep heads coming back for more. If Be Alright’s sunny vibe and thoughtful rhymes have you hooked, be sure to pick up a copy of the up-and-comer’s new mixtape when it drops in August.

In the last few weeks, we have discovered more untapped DMV talent than in the last few years. I am almost embarrassed to not have heard of half these DC-Maryland-Virginia emcees. This is right in line with all our previous features from the past few weeks.
As Richard said to eloquently, "deceptively dense blend of braggadocio, wordplay, and autobiographical detail Malone brings to this cut requires repeat listens to fully appreciate." |

Yeah Z, I wish some of these underground emcees could get more exposure. They are the ones with the most talent and messages behind the mic. Another banger on the Booth tonight.

Agree with @GStan10 ....
Dope! bars over a nicely sampled timeless beat. I have never heard anything from this Mugg before. But I will definitely be making an investigation soon ... BANGER!!! |

I agree with both Z and GStan10 this dude and many others need to be given a shot. This reminds me of some Reasonable Doubt shit, post Jiggy Jigga. This is a good song, with a great sample.

Ok so maybe I meant, Pre-Jiggy jigga! Before all the glitz and glamor. This is the lost song from that album. Muggsy is what's missing from the game, someone to take us back to those days.

Damn, DJBooth has been sick at finding storytellers lately, makes me yearn for the days of Biggie. Tight track and I love the sample.

This guy could possibly bring the game back to where it needs to be. I see that he gets a lot of respect in the DMV. His flow is not like the regular artist coming out. Voice not too annoying to listen to, doesn't try to sound like Wale or follow whats seeming to become the mold of DMV rappers and MC. He's himself. After these two songs that I've heard. If he can switch up his flow I'll be convinced that this guy could put rap on his back. This is where music needs to be at and I haven't heard anything thats matching him besides Slaughterhouse or Drake lyricially.
