Mr. Smilez - Nite Life ft. Lloyd
Artist: Mr. Smilez
Featuring: Lloyd
Producer: Dakari
Album: The Sponge
Label: Dream House
In the summer of 2002, indie rap duo Smilez and Southstar scored a Top 40 hit with Crash the Party lead single Tell Me, thanks in part to a catchy sample from Marvin Gaye and Diana Ross’ Stop Look Listen (To Your Heart). Despite several attempts to drop another album (including the BET Uncut classic Good Look), the duo were unable to escape the “one-hit wonder” stigma, a fact that ultimately led to their demise. On his latest solo single, Mr. Smilez heads out to forget his cares and simply enjoy his city’s Nite Life (being the home of Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, and Magic basketball, the O-Town scene is one of the strongest in the nation). R&B singer Lloyd decides to stop by and join the party, contributing hook vocals and a closing verse over Dakari‘s propulsive beat. The Nite Life only gets more fun in the summertime, so look for Mr. Smilez to pick up spins galore when The Sponge drops this summer.

Meh, this is ok. Lloyd was just alright here for a guest feature, and Mr Smilez had me frowning. Not the worst thing ever, but not worthy of repeat.

The production on this is pretty bad its like they werent sure what direction to go so they just combined all the production ideas together. Even Lloyd cant save this one and Mr. Smilez lyrics are not that good. 1 star

I didn't think the production was bad at all, and Lloyd made this a tight summer jam. The low-point was Mr. Smilez. He didn't sound that good on here. I'll give it a 2.5, but it's not quite in rotation.

Come on, guys. If Flo Rida can do it so can Mr. Smilez.

LOL, I echo JORDAN's sentiment. This is purely fun pop-rap. Aiming to get played on the radio and at the clubs, this will get spins if it gets pushed.
Sidebar: Has anyone EVER heard Lloyd sing a bad hook? Dude is so consistent its not even funny. |

I like the hook, Lloyd sounds good as usual. But verses are annoying and the production is extremely silly. It seems music of a videogame!

Haha yea definitely some club-hop here... The beat, which is not quite what I like to listen to, is kinda a fun club beat. The hook is OK, but its kinda a club hook too. Smilez do sound a lil like he got a FloRida flow on this, but it is OK.

I can see where you guys are coming from on how the production is mediocre but this is one of those songs that grow on you and just make you wanna dance.

This song def does not make me wanna dance...maybe if I'm acting silly with my friends and we're trying to do dances our parents did in the 70s. Lloyd isn't bad on here but i don't like this. It's really wack and i won't be playing this again.

Dakari's production his hot. That synth bass gives a little MJ feel to the track, and also makes it a great record to dance to.
