I have to admit, I was really excited when I saw this track. We’ve all heard the talk and rumors about another Black Star album in the works, but actually seeing Mos Def and Talib Kweli together once again is enough to make me turn my head and pay attention. On History, a track off the back end of Mos Def’s forthcoming The Ecstatic LP, the emcees reminisce about the historical events in the years around their birth and their short stint as Black Star, leaving hints that they are serious about recording a new album together. The track’s nostalgic vibe is further bolstered by excellent production from the late J Dilla, whose sampled jazz vocals and strings heighten the reflective mood. History probably won’t end up being a hit single (as of right now, it’s not being released as one), but this is still a worthy cut—if nothing else, take this as more reason to look forward to another Black Star album.

Kanye got me hooked on this one over the weekend, and I've been listening more and more. History is a positive record, and tells a cool story from begining to end. Mos Def and Talib together always impress, so this is no different.

BEAUTIFUL production and sample, another masterpiece from Dilla. These dudes just FIT, they just sound better on a song together. Their styles compliment eachother so well: Talib's high pitched and often energetic flow mixed wit Mos' more laid back and lower voice. The track is hot and I will be lookin out for that reunion.

Agree with Juanito.

These two are one of the greatest Duo's in hip hop. They must know how big the demand is for another Black Star album.

I loved it, and we can only hope for a new Blackstar album. Even if they do not grace us with one, we can atleast look to more tracks from the 2 I'm sure!

@Z - Thats a bold statement, but I'll probably have to agree with it. Ive heard about 8 tracks leaked off the album & this is easily the best out of the bunch.

@Z - dont tell me u aint feelin the track "Auditiorium" with Slick Rick ...
The lyrical strength of both emcees beat most of the opposition & as usual Dilla's beat fit the words like a glove ....
I like the Middle Eastern sound he infused into alot of the songs on Ecstatic but that album is NOT for the masses ...

@ Z. There are som weak ongs on The Ecstatic, but apart from this banger, there is some other heat = 'Auditorium ft. Slick Rick', 'Roses', and 'Life In marvelous Times' e.g. Album id his best since Black On Both Sides.

Disagreeing with Z. All of the songs Nad posted are pretty damn sick, and I personally love Casa Bey as well.

Gr8 atmosphere, I'm saying that because my new Sennheiser's have just arrived and are at their best when listening to these type of tracks. Dilla is an amazing producer and with help from Mos and talib, depicted images of life, coo.

Feeling this track like no other. I love Mos, I love Talib and the beat highlighted their vocal and lyrical talents well. Of course, I'm with DaMack..why not call it Blackstarr? I suppose it must be that Blackstarr is so sublime and wonderful that it can only pop up in name every hundred years like friggin brigadoon.

Def feeling this joint! J Dilla beat is nice. Also nice to hear Black Star back together. I think it was a good move from Geffen to Downtown for Mos. The Joint with the Madlib beat and Slick Rick is dope!
