Mook N Fair - Who's Your Daddy
Artist: Mook N Fair
Featuring: DJ Webstar
Producer: J. Stone
Album: The Secret's Out
Label: GS Entertainment/Brooklyn Knights
Back in March, the official, Busta Rhymes and Raekwon-featuring remix of Melanie Fiona‘s Give It to Me Right offered solid proof of something I’d long suspected: namely, that the Zombies’ Time of the Season would make absolutely phenomenal material for a rap record. For the few who remain unconvinced, I present Exhibit B: on Connecticut duo Mook N Fair‘s latest single (and first Booth feature), beatsmith J. Stone borrows that summery groove, as well as the cut’s “Who’s Your Daddy?” vocal hook. Flaunting their bankrolls in hopes of tempting a female away from her not-so-loaded man, the recent Cinematic Music Group signees parlay those timeless lines into a danceable yet refreshingly mellow take on the ‘high-rolling club banger’ formula. Newly-added for the record’s single version, DJ Webstar complements the chilled-out vibe with some… hoarse, Lil’ Jon-style hype? To be honest, it sounds a little out of place, but that’s a minor (and kind of funny) misstep on a damned catchy cut. Who’s Your Daddy is set for inclusion on the twosome’s forthcoming The Secret’s Out LP, the details of which are TBA.

Man, this has become quite the popular sample. I have no doubt that The Zombies are loving making all this mula for sample clearances. Real enjoyable record.

I gotta give this banger status for the killer sample. The production is sick and the vocal sample is perfect on the hook. Their flows were on point and just good enough to make this track flow very well.

im from ct, and have heard a lot of mook n fair over the past few years that is BETTER than this...this isn't the hyped vibe that they usually have on their tracks. mook n fair goes much harder than this, huge fan of them, but not the track!

This was tight. That sample was done really well and the song had a good overall vibe. I gotta give this a 4. Very enjoyable.

Melonie Fiona's version (using this same sample) is slightly better, but this plays towards a club crowd. In the right environment, this will work.

Just based off the creativity with lyrics and the use of the sample this would have been in rotation. But the overall production takes it to banger status. This is another one I can hear being bumped from the drop-tops this summer.
