What is it, 1998? First Brandy releases a comeback single, Right Here (Departed), and now her former The Boy Is Mine partner in crime, Monica, does the exact same thing. Still Standing is the Atlanta singer’s first release in over two years. Like Right Here (Departed), the track revels in its over-the-top poignancy, possibly marking a departure from the mushy R&B that made her so famous. Monica’s seen her fair share of hardships (including her boyfriend’s suicide and a bout with depression), and her emotions really come through on this one. Producer Bryan-Michael Cox, who has done extensive work with her before, contributes a beat filled with heavy synths and light piano, while guest Ludacris spits a quick 16. Still Standing will appear on her 6th studio album, also titled Still Standing, due for release later this year.
Whoa, Brandy on Sunday and Monica on Monday...blast from the past??? LOL Man I am really feelin this joint. Monica still has that distinctive voice and the beat is insane. I gotta say that Ludacris is the KING of these R&B tracks, there is no other rapper that can flow as well as him on these. He is def the highlight of the song, but Monica is back for real. Her and Brandy are gonna be competing with each other like old times.
Great song right here. Loving the beat. Monica is on point. Luda, although short, brings his usual consistency. Really looking forward to Theater of the Mind.
Yeah, that's wassup. Too of the hard hitting female R&B singers from the 90s making comebacks in the same week. I agree Dangerconsumer. It could off sounded a little cleaner and smoother. When if first started, I thought it was going to be real nice because of the B-M-C production, but I think the synth through it off a tad bit. But nevertheless, this is a great comeback track . Luda's verse was clean as usual. I also liked the message within Monica's lyrics. Superb.
This is a classic. No way around it. Monica has been though hell and she finally lets us in. Gettin her Mary J on. Luda killed it. The production is Heat. What can I say? Nothin bad bout this one.
It's a cool song, great beat and great performance by Luda! Monica has a good voice...yeah I thought the same thing as you all, before Brandy and now Monica! I used to listen to The Boy Is Mine when I was 13...I still like it, that song is still a classic!
yes, way better than brandy's joint. matter fact, this is inspiring, right? & its comforting. like it. & as far luda... no words needed. thanks, monica: i'm still standing too, baby.
=)
peace.

Monica keeps your attention throughout the beginning, and although she has a wonderful voice I felt like the song was getting bored, and then Luda slaps the /&%& out of you.
