First things first, Mod Sun’s DJBooth debut feature Chain Gang is one of those songs that will send you scrambling to locate the sample (at least if you’re a rap nerd like me) so let’s get a little production breakdown out of the way. While Chain Gang is a soul standard that’s been covered by just about everyone, it’s most famous rendition comes from Sam Cooke, and while I can’t tell exactly what sample producers JCW & Dave Siegel flipped, that’s my best guess. Now that we’ve got that settled (kind of) we can move onto Bloomington, MN emcee Mod Sun. Impressively Mod doesn’t let the beat outshine him, delivering a rapid fire yet always clear anthem that’s equal parts aggression and inspiration.  It all works for me. The sample is mad catchy, his vocals are mainstream-ready, and the record is re-playable. I'd like to hear more, though, before I made a judgement on Mod as an artist.

I've been listening to Mod since the beginning. i've always been a HUGE fan. this song is so amazing. i make sure i listen to it at least once every single day. his music has changed my life and has made me able to see positivity in everything that comes my way, and this song just adds to the love i have for this beautiful human. i can honestly say that there is not 1 song that i dont like of his. and im sure that wont change in the future. blazed by the bell is gonna be absolutely fantastic and this song makes me believe it even more. keep doin what you're doin man, cause it all works for me. :)

mod sun is a true artist. with each new song that he releases, he completely out does himself from the last. he's not in it for the money, he's in it for the success. he's a true artist that works harder than most of the people in the game today. the best has yet to come for him. expect big things from mod sun. he's a true genuine artist.

Seems like rappers are more frequently juking the stats. This song is solid and very catchy, but it is not 5 star worthy. Love the production, but something about his voice makes me hesitant.
