Mobb Deep - Dead Man’s Shoes
Artist: Mobb Deep
Producer: Beat Butcha
Album: Black Cocaine EP
Label: Infamous Records
Soon after Mobb Deep’s Prodigy was released from jail, you knew a slew of new music would be lined up for release. Long regarded as one of hip-hop’s more influential groups from the 90’s, the QB duo are preparing to release a new EP called Black Cocaine digitally on November 21, which features freshly released Dead Man’s Shoes. Produced by Beat Butcha, P takes the first verse that meanders in and out of some very familiar themes - e.g. “real recognizes real” and “you look real unfamiliar” - while asserting that Mobb Deep have been the backbone to hardcore hip-hop. Havoc follows, taking what Prodigy said even further by focusing on the new jacks to the hardcore game, essentially pulling what Waka Flocka would call a “G-check.” The beat itself is punishing and dark in tone, which allows the duo to do what they’re known for doing. The overall luster of the track doesn’t shine as brightly as their work during the 90’s and early 2000’s, but a quick EP should be just what is needed to knock any rust off of the group and get them back on top of the food chain.

Honestly, I thought I would like this a lot more than I did. I was expecting more from Mobb Deep and Bounty Killer. I don't really like anything about this track. I don't like the way Mobb is flowing on here or the beat. Bounty almost sounds out of place...
