Mistah F.A.B. is back on the scene with a brand new, digital-only EP I Found My Backpack 2: The Lost Notebook, which dropped today. Not surprisingly, Booth selection In My City, featuring lyrical assists from Talib Kweli and Royce Da 5’9”, is a stand-out on the release. As if stellar guest appearances weren’t enough, producer Rob-E‘s hard knocking drum rhythms and somber synth melodies brings the emotions conveyed in the song to life. It’s no secret that life in the city isn’t easy, especially if you happen to be poor and/or a person of color. Perhaps that’s why a lot of hip hop tends to focus on the opposite end of the spectrum (wealth, excess and materialism) as a means of escapism. F.A.B brings it back to Grandmaster Flash’s The Message in his own way, as a reminder that hip hop had its humble beginnings voicing the plight of the people oppressed by Capitalism. Sounds heavy, but it’s a great listen without being too overbearing. Check out F.A.B’s new EP and keep your browser locked on The DJBooth for more from the Bay Area emcee in the future.

A stand out cut indeed. F.A.B. doesn't mess around, adding two guest features into the fold who know how to get a point across, doing so in a very engaging and entertaining manner.

This beat is cool. The sound is different and I like it. Mistah FAB had a good delivery in the beginning. Talib lyrically hurt this beat. Royce ripped it too. BANGER material.
