With the way Chicago’s South Side has churned out rappers in the last decade, including Kanye, Common, and Rhymefest, it must be confusing itself with New York or L.A. For the sake of hip-hop, I vote that we let it stay confused. The newest emcee from the Windy City is Mikkey Halsted, a former Kanye protégé with an unmatched passion for his hometown. Chi Sh*t, a track from his debut album, Chicago: The Photo Album, is all about why his city is better than yours. If you take a look at the industry today, can you really argue with him? Helping him out on the beat is fellow South Sider No I.D. Halsted may not be the next big thing, but you’ve got to admire his Chi-town pride. Run for your headphones, world; the Midwest has officially blown up.
I'm not really feeling the beat on here. I'm sorry Z, but I'm not really feeling his flow on here. If I was from Chi-town, I would love the chorus though! I don't think its Garbage, but just OK to me... Lyrics not really that strong and the beat isn't that catchy...
DJ Z speaking of cities. Did you see my city last night? I'm on that Beantown Sh*t. Please say that you witnessed Boston make history last night. I like the heavy bass line and Mikkey flow is nice.
I feel that 'cuz some of you DJ's on here are from Chi-Town you've been playing so much Chi artits.... and not all of 'em are that great! C'mon, play ish from EVERYWHERE please... oh yeah and play some good stuff not no Cupid shuffle or w/e the heck that was =/
Sweetkissez: In the last five days (which equals 40 featured records inside our DJBooth), Mikkey is the ONLY artist from Chicago. However, if we had featured music this week from Kanye, Common, Lupe, Gemstones or Rhymefest... can you blame us? These are some of the most popular and buzzing artists in the industry! We don't feature records according to city popularity; we feature records that we receive from record labels (irregardless of their home origin).
J dont get me started. I'm in pain here spare me the taunts for at least a week. lol I thought this song would suck by looking at the ratings. This is not all that bad. The beat is alittle scattered, but its deffinatly a full sound. I like the live drums on here. Mikkey is reppin the Go in a way that I'm sure his kin are proud of. However ailenating anyone who may not be from there. (As most anthems do) This song is for the Go and Go only so I'ma go give it a 3.
