 Send Ringtones to Your Phone

If I was able to call a superhero whenever I wanted, I’d never stop ringing. (“Uh, Hello? Yeah, I need to get picked up from campus again. Next to the food court, thanks.”) While I’m sure that’d eventually get aggravating, Mikey Rocks might let me ride in the batmobile when I dial his Bat Phone. You can always expect Rocks to showcase something original whenever he does work as a member of the Cool Kids, and he doesn’t disappoint today with his first solo feature on the Booth. The Produktonix & Tall Black Guy push a beat that would make an insomniac drowsy, but Rocks manages to bring the listener back from the lethargic state enough to enjoy his brand of smooth wordplay that has made the Cool Kids a hip-hop staple. If you liked this sleepy superhero track, be sure to keep a lookout for Mikey; he reportedly recorded a number of new tracks with The Produktonix, some of which are due to leak this week. Could a new album be far behind?

I know I have heard that bassline used before in a Kanye West record. "Driving Slow" maybe? Am I just hearing things?

I think I am sooooooo used to hearing Mikey spit over Chuck's production style that this came off, at first, as a little strange. But after a few listens I really started to dig the direction that he took. Should be interesting to hear what an entire body of work sounds like based off this one listen.

DJ Z without even reading your comment I was like "this sounds like Drive Slow" so yeah I got the same vibe there.

I'm digging Mikey as a solo artist though.

I love Mikey... his style made me a huge fan of the Cool Kids. It is weird to hear him on a track that is not simply bass and snare (which is the signature Inglish style that works well). I thought it worked very well, loved his strange lyrical style as always.

Obviously the better emcee between him and Chuck. HUGE fan of the Kids, and while this gives you a different perspective on Mike's skills, I'm feelin this. Album on the way? Hah, I'll be laughin about that while I wait for the Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. Long as they keep the dope sh!t comin I'm good.

I just went back and listened to Drive Slow and while they do sound really similar, I don't think they're the same sample.

Anyway, I agree completely with
Juanito_88: "It is weird to hear him on a track that is not simply bass and snare." But Mikey does well here. If anyone is capable of carrying off a solo rap career it's Mikey.

I've known Mikey could spit some serious rhymes since he killed "looseleaf paper" a while ago. It's good to hear him on a different style production(which does share some sounds with "drive slow" or "shorty wanna be a thug" in reality) but its not the same beat. This is much more haunting and spacely. I hope all this momentum doesn't get wasted by the kids.
