Mike Schpitz - We on Fire
Artist: Mike Schpitz
Producer: Rob Bates
Album: Stanley Ipkiss: Year of the Nice Guy EP
Label: The Prize Package
As anyone that has been keeping up with Mike Murder, I mean Mike Schpitz, knows, the clever Kansan emcee just doesn’t seem capable of making a mistake lately (World Cup refs, take notes). This time around sounds like more of the same, which is actually some good news when it comes to his latest single, We on Fire. On the beat side the DJBooth Freestyle series alum enlists producer Rob Bates to keep the energy level up with a digitally heavy and video game inspired beat (is that Paperboy I hear?) that matches Schpitz’s constantly fluctuating pop culture reference flow. Lyrically, Mike continues to ensure fans that his creativity/insanity is as rewind-worthy as ever by dropping off-kilter Hulk Hogan jokes and schpiting aggressively intelligent lines like: “I’m relaxed to the max, kick back in a glass house; Why ya’ll throw stones? I chokehold microphones.” For even more hip-hop heat from Mr. Schpitz be sure to check out his upcoming effort Stanley Ipkiss: Year of the Nice Guy EP, dropping August 3.

If his Booth-sponsored and hosted Mike Murder project didn't raise some eyebrows and impress (which is doubtful if you listened without those cotton balls in your ears), this new EP certainly will do the trick. Lead leak "We On Fire" is everything I'd come to expect from a Schpitz record - including a perfect production accompaniment in Rob Bates.

Man look. Im picky as hell with my Hip Hop in this day and age. My homie put me on to Mike Schpitz and ive been jammin since. This isn't hype. The guy has music for every mood and he gets busy on the mic. I got nothing but positives to say about homie. Listen up and enjoy it folks.

Odd that the unsigned talent on this site have better ratings than the signed cats. Someone wearing an expensive suit and sitting at a desk in a record company must see this.

@XuUP17 - You haven't liked any Schpitz tracks but this one? Interesting, since to me this is basically a continuation of what he's been doing all along. What made the difference for you?
As for me, pure dopeness. Who else would make a Hulk Hogan/Golddust reference? And for those too lazy to Google, Stanley Ipkiss was the name of Jim Carrey's character in The Mask. |

This is a lot to digest!! W/ this ridiculous beat and the lyrics bein on point the way they are its almost impossible to pick up every hot bar he's put'n down on the 1st listen. I suggest that everyone listen twice to get all of what this track has to offer. I was definitely guilty of rewinding within the first 40 seconds...haha. SICK SONG!!

@XuUP17 I'm with you man, none of these guys songs have really impressed me, mainly because his beats are too original and repetitive and his sound just doesn't click with me. One thing I did realise though is that this guy has line after line of madness. Lyrical professor. I did enjoy this more than his other songs because I love CASIO sounding beats. I still can't get into his flow but hey, it took me a few songs to get into k.Sparks flow and now he's one of my favourite rappers. So you never know hey? So. Keep em' comin' Mike! Hopefully you'll get my attention soon but for now, aint' feelin' ya enough...

The song has interesting, unique production, great flow, and some pretty clever punchlines, but not much else. It's fun, but its not convincing that Mike Schpitz is anything more than a wild flow and clever lyrics. This track is fun, but frankly, it makes Mike sound like a very forgettable joke.
