Mike Schpitz - Gotta Be Something
Artist: Mike Schpitz
Featuring: Neak , Sincerely Yours
Producer: Slot-A
Album: #illRaps Series (Week 3)
Label: The Prize Package
Talk about starting off 2011 with a bang, or more accurately, a banger. Site favorite and hip-hop chameleon Mike Schpitz has teamed up with the Booth-acclaimed emcee Neak and newcomer Sincerely Yours for the dope new joint Gotta Be Something. Produced by Slot-A, Something delivers a basic, gritty beat centered around a classic Common sample for each artist to deliver their individual flavor. While the talent was guaranteed before the song even played, I’m always hesitant to see headlining artists collaborate; the results are often something less than the sum of their parts. However, Schpitz and Neak easily match their past individual successes – just check out their DJBooth freestyles - and Sincerely wraps up the track impressively. All in all, this song is for listeners who simply enjoy good music. Hell, even Alexandre Dumas would probably dig it (look it up). If you were feeling Gotta Be, be sure to keep an eye on the ongoing #illRaps Series, featuring more Slot-A beats and rhymes from some of the most dynamic young emcees in the game.

The song is super mellow and I feel like it should be playing under a streetlight on a dark, cold night LOL. I love Mike's smooth approach on here, and Neak is starting to pop up here and there. The hook is dope with Common sample.

There's a list of emcees I can count on to always deliver, and Schpitz and Neak are on it. This is the kind of cut I'd throw on in my car late at night when I'm feeling like some of that real, real hip-hop. Respect to everyone involved.

Well, chill or elevator this is still a really nice track. All of the emcees flow over the beat with ease.
