Hailing from the rarely hailed city of Topeka, Kansas, Mike Schpitz is a relative newcomer to the DJBooth’s pages, but he’s already managed to win over (most) of Booth nation with his wit and unique rhyme style. Well, Schpitz is back and flexing his freestyle muscles again (see his exclusive Booth freestyle) on Mike is Like, making its worldwide debut right here, right now. As we heard on Marky’s Full Clip freestyle, you’d be hard pressed to do better than a DJ Premier beat, and here Mike murders the Premier production we first heard on Nas’ Nas Is Like (get it?). I’m sure someone will find a way, but it’s hard to hate on rhymes like “Mike is like a pack of Mike & Ikes to a diabetic…I’m dope enough to ignite a Richard Pryor fire session.” Slow down Mike, you’re killin’ em. Mike is Like is the first leak off Schpitz’ upcoming, Booth-sponsored album Mike Murder, due to drop in June. In the meantime, keep it locked for two more premieres coming this month!

Its been a good minute since I last heard "Nas is Like" (which reminds me of how much I miss the old Nas, but I digress), so this was a welcome listen. The Premo beat is geared specifically for emcees who can rap on end and Schpitz shows and proves for three solid minutes. While the beat will always win out (no matter who is rapping over it), Schpitz does enough.

YEA THAT BEAST OOPS (INTENTIONAL MISTAKE) I MEAN BEAT IS CLASSIC.(sorry for caps i overly expressed my emotions on the last track [the long last real track to "all the way tuned up"]
anywaysss................................this song requires you to focus on what hes saying and he sounds pretty fresh on here and doesnt try to take over knowing this beat should carry him and pump him up with thoughts and idea which is exactly what happens its a hot track over all and is enjoyable i dont know whats into me but im giving this a banger! |

From the first line alone you can tell Schpitz can rhyme and deliver it properly so that you can feel it! |

I guess that freestyle's over Nas beats are in now lol. But this was REALLY well done, better then the other recent freestyles over Life's a @*#$! and One mic (I think it was those lol) in my opinion. Good work.

yes ill add my name to the list of people who were genuinely surprised by mike's talent after seeing his picture. incredible flow i reckon, he just goes over this already banging beat very nicely- glove-in-hand. great intro, wanting more!

@Blaze31 Of course he falls short of the original. No matter how dope you are, it's almost impossible to be doper than Nas.
Such lofty comparisons aside, Mike nails this track right now, which is what matters. Lesson learned, sick rhymes can come from anyone, anywhere. Music first, image last.

Let me just start off by saying that no one can out do NaS on the mic. This guy alone stood no chance, but by no means was his effort wasted. Combined with some clever punch lines and a solid flow that kept up with the beat this was hot.
Production wise, there is a reason this is included in Nas' many classics. Mike Schpitz surprised me with this. Coming in and by looks alone, I expected to see a sub-par rapper at best, but don't judge a book by it's cover. He "murdered" this. |

Lit is serious even on a dope beat like Nas's, kid does his business and comes on it hard clap it up for the dude that kind of reminds me of asher roth (not just because...lol) but the witty slick spit with concrete appeal

This guy looks goofy and looks like he should be in a cubicle not behind a mic. Nonetheless I enjoy rappers tryna spit over an old Nas beat. So far no ones been able to do it for me yet. This dude has lyrics that are fire yet, his voice gets repetitive and too much monotone. Good effort just doesn't do it for me.
